    Move Xbox account

When I bought my minor son his first Xbox, I added the Xbox to my account and had my son sign in there to use it. He is now an adult and I want him to set up his own Microsoft account and move his Xbox to his own account. How do we do this??.

I dont understand the purpose of not allowing him to transfer his info? This is years of his info/accomplishments that will be lost.

If your account is a Microsoft Account (i.e. you used a Hotmail/Outlook/Live.com email address for yourself), be aware that you will lose your emails, OneDrive data and everything else associated with your account!

If you used a third party email (like Yahoo, Gmail, or your own domain email), you can at least have your own email.

    Go to
    https://account.microsoft.com
and add a sign in alias to your account that you wish to transfer to your son.

Be aware, that the email can NOT be a Microsoft Account already!

After you added your son's email, make this email the primary sign in alias. After changing to your son's email as the primary sign in alias, remove your own email as a sign in alias.

AGAIN BEWARE! Unless you use a third party email, you will lose your emails and other Microsoft Account services!!!

If you do have a Microsoft Account, and wish to keep your OneDrive and email content, then there is no way around getting your son a new account.

Unfortunately, parents sometimes think they do good by using their own email for their kids on Xbox, thinking they can control their kids better that way.

But the opposite is the case. By using your own adult account for your kid, the kid is regarded as an adult, and can do anything on Xbox: Purchasing stuff in your name, talk to internet strangers, play adult oriented games and whatnot.

To benefit from the parental controls and to be able to use the online and privacy features for children, it is necessary to make a separate child account right from the start, and add that child account to your own parent account.

That way you can limit screen times, allow the kid to only talk to known friends from their friend list and only play games suitable for their age.

Since child accounts can't change their online and privacy settings themselves, they are safe, and can only do what the parent account allows them to do.

While kids on the parent's adult account can set up their own online and privacy settings themselves.

    To conclude:

You basically have only two choices: If you don't want to risk losing your email, OneDrive content, Skype and other Microsoft Account services, your kid has to start over with a new account.

If you don't use other Microsoft Account services like OneDrive, Skype, Office etc. and you use a third party email service, then you can give your son a sign in alias on your account, make this the primary sign in alias, and remove your email from the account,
effectively transferring the account to your kid.

Yea unfortunately you cant just move everything. You can, however, add a second email for him to login with, set that as primary, and then remove the other email from the account. If the original email account is a Hotmail address it will be DELETED. So
remove with caution. Hope that helps!

It won't be lost but is tied to your own account. It's not possible to transfer achievements and progress to a different account. Your Xbox gamertag is tied to a Microsoft account and they can't be separated.

You can easily havr him create his own account and log into his xbox.

He will lose access to his saved games and anything linked to your account. They cannot be transferred to another Microsoft account, nor can his gamertag.

He would essentially be starting fresh on his account.
