Move External Storage. (Xbox One)

Hello,

If I get an external Hard Drive and migrate my game installs, etc... on there then later get a new XBox One Console Can I move the External Drive to the new console so that I don't need to reinstall everything?

I of course would be authenticated to my xbox live account on the new console, and still have my disks to put in, I just want to save some install time and other hassles if I can.

you most certainly can copy/move your data between the xbox hard drive and an external hard drive.

How do I manage external storage?

In My games & apps, you can view content by storage device. To do this, highlight a game or app, press the Menu button on your controller, and then select Manage game. You will then be able to move or copy content between storage devices.

Trouble with internet and external storage devices

I'm trying to move some games to my external storage device, but the game is there already but it has a different game size as the other one. I don't think I made a copy of that game and It will not move to the external storage device. Do I have to delete
the small version of the game and then move the bigger one to the external storage device, or will it mess up my game.

 

Yes, it will work just fine. Like you already stated, you'll still need the disc and your XBL account to authenticate the games, but you will be able to plug the external into your new console and play away!

I was wondering since on a competing console I don't think that was the case. And wasn't sure if locking the device to a specific console was an industry standard or what.
