Move External Storage to New Console

Can I move my external storage from Xbox One to Xbox One S without losing saved games? I'm thinking of buying a new console but don't want to lose my saved games that are on my external drive.

    :)

    Upcoming Xbox one s

All Xbox One consoles have the option to add external storage for extra space. You can have up to 2 USB 3.0 devices ranging in size from 256 GB to 16 TB for storage. When added you can move your games there and then simply plug the hard drive into the
    new console.

Swithing my HD to a different console

Sorry to hear you're having issues. For future reference it would be better to create a new thread detailing your issue instead of bumping older ones.

You can certainly use a flash drive to move the games to the newer console however that could prove to be time consuming. Especially if you have a lot of games and content stored.

Xbox consoles now support external storage up to 2TB for your games and saves. It may be easier to get a larger external drive, move the content to it and then attach it to the newer console.

yes just plug in the external in the one s and the games will start showing up, and the saves will also go over as they are stored in the cloud

Can I use an Xbox One S Seagate hard drive to transfer my games to a Series X when I get it?

No, just plug in the external hard drive, and your games that are stored on there will work straight away. There is no need to move them to the new console, only the Xbox Series X games have to be stored on the console or the external SSD storage that
    is available for it too.

copying xbox one data on external drive to xbox one S external drive

    Hey there gmhowe.

You'll need to move your games over onto an external storage device one by one. Check out the steps on

    this page
for info on how to set up external storage. Once it's all moved you should be able to access it on your Xbox One S no problem.

Cannot Play Game (Call of Duty) Due To Installation\Update Issues.

Hi, ROCKETZOMBIE77! Thank you for your reply.
I'm sorry to hear that didn't work.

As I mentioned before, you'll need to install the game directly on the console's internal storage while your external storage unit is not plugged into the console. I understand you do not have enough storage space available, so it would be a good idea to move some games from internal to external and then attempt to install the game on your console's internal storage unit.

Would you mind giving this a try?

    • To move games:

    - Cancel the failed installation process for COD.
    - Go to Settings > System > Storage devices > Select your console's internal storage unit > Move or Copy > Select the games you want to move > Move selected.

    • Once you are done moving games:

    - Press and hold your console's power button
    - Unplug your external storage unit, and leave it like that.
    - Unplug your console's power cord for a few minutes.
    - Plug the power cord in and turn your console on.
    - Try installing the game again.

Considering what you've tried already, I'm afraid this method is the last thing to try before attempting to format the external hard drive or performing a factory reset, depending on where the problem lies.

Please let me know if this works, I'll be looking forward to your reply.
    Best regards.
