Most efficient way to set up Gold subscriptions for family gaming

    Hi All,

Looking for some guidance on the best / cheapest way to set up gold subscriptions etc in order that we can play a game as a family...

A little background - during the last year, my wife, my son and I have enjoyed playing Sea of Thieves as a trio, with my son playing on my xbox, and my wife and I playing using the beta of the game streaming app up until September. We've struggled to be
able to play all together since then.

    Current set-up:-

I now have two xbox's - a new Series X, set as my home console & my original xbox one. My account has the game pass ultimate subscription, but my wife & son don't play enough to really warrant gold / gamepass subscriptions....

The only way I can see to make this work is for

    1) Me to use my gamepass ultimate subscription to play remotely on my android device

    2) One of my wife / son to use the xbox series x - as this is set as the home console, this isn't an issue

    3) The remaining player to use the original xbox one. This is the problem - I'm assuming I'll need to both purchase a copy of Sea of Thieves as well as a gold subscription in order to continue playing as a trio?

As a secondary question, I also purchased Sea of Thieves back on release day (digital copy), and now also have access to this via gamepass - can I 'gift' the digital copy I have to my son, for example, to avoid buying yet another copy?

If anyone can confirm if this is the best way to set up subscriptions etc, or if there's a better way that I've missed, that'd be great.

    Many thanks in advance

    C

    :)

Ok, so you have a designated home xbox, so that's the first step. Next thing you'll want to do is add your family members profiles to that xbox, which will allow them to share everything on there including Gold, Game Pass, and any other games. About the
only thing you won't be able to share would be purchased 'additional' content (skins and such I guess).

To add the family members, press the Xbox button on the controller (the big X) and scroll over to your profile. Then select Add or switch, and then Add New. Have the other person(s) enter their profile credentials, and their profile will now be accessible on
    that console.

Now, you'll want to add them as Family members.

    Press the Xbox button on
your controller to open the guide. Select Profile & system, and sign in to your account. Press the Xbox button again
to open the guide, and select Profile & system -> Settings -> Account. Select Family settings -> Manage family members .Select Add to
family. Select the profile for the person you want to add, and then press the A button on
    your controller.

Now you have them set up as family members who should now be able to sign in under their own profiles and still use the Gold and Game Pass subscriptions that you have.

The only issue from here would be the third player/Android player. That part I'm really not sure on. I'd say maybe try the setup listed above (you can always undo it) and see if you can join in when your wife and son are using the two consoles. Again,
I really don't know the answer to that part.

As for the gifting question - you can't do that unfortunately. The purchase is attached to your profile and can't be gifted or resold. However, the above solution should *hopefully* avoid the need to do that, since your son will have access to both your
Game Pass AND the purchased copy of the game while on either console.

If all of that is clear as mud, here are a couple of links that might help too:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-CA/help/subscriptions-billing/manage-subscriptions/share-xbox-live-gold-subscription

I hope that helps you out some.

Enjoy the high seas, you scurvy dogs!

Moving from Xbox 360 to Xbox One and Family Sharing

As the family sharing option on the Xbox one is a little bit different to the option on the 360 it is definitely recommended the way you describe it. Set up the adult account and get it a gold subscription. Then set up the child account(s) and add them
to the family and all the family associated accounts are able to use the gold subscription as well as all the digital purchases of the parent/adult account. And of course you can also add another parent/adult account, too.

Only getting a gold subscription for the child account only works for the specific child account and will not be valid for the adult or other family associated accounts.

Sharing betwixt 2 consoles in one house

Currently the Home setting is the only way to share games/subscriptions with other profiles. Adding users to your family is just to set up family settings.

    Multiple users

Hey there AwareTen, if both of your boys want to be able to play games online then you would need two gold accounts or they could share an account if thats the way you want to go. Another option which may be appropriate for your family situation is to set
up a family gold subscription. This will allow you to retain parental control, and allow for yourself, and your two boys to have a gold membership at a discounted rate :)

    Xbox game pass ultimate

There hasn't been a family plan for several years. So it'll work the same way gold does now. The Ultimate subscription will be tied to the account that purchases. That account can set a console as their Home console and anyone else using that console can
access the gold and games from the subscription.
