    More Accessibility for games.

daily, we see new accessibility options for games, many with forms of color filters, larger fonts, but just like this, something important is rarely debated: Sharp noises, bass and their sensitivity to some individuals, many may say "but just play without sound" That cuts the experience. It should be a way for people who have sound sensitivities (frequent on the autism spectrum) to play without stress.

    :)

Get a decent receiver and activate Midnight Mode which flattens the volume curve substantially making sounds a more even volume

You have two options as obviously playing without sound is a really lousy solution and some games have sounds you have to respond to. In the most frustrating game my work friends ever decided would be fun to play together playing without sound would have made me even more inept.

I also have games where If I am honest the sound is the best part but like you sharp sounds and too much bass cause chaos. On top of ASD I have synesthesia and while popular psychology always dwells on the good bits so sound visual field being crossed would be enhanced symphonies in cold hard numbers these are the almost no one has that versus the brain scrambling that accompanies the shapes that are far more likely at high or unexpected.

I have degenerative issues so I can't sit long so I use a laptop. As I used to need a gaming computer for work I discovered the whole a laptop marketed for professionals that has a gaming GPU which is what I got initially isn't repaired as easily as a gaming marketed very similar one. I am told the gaming ones are meant to be heartier but the other thing that happens is instead of those annoying free trials of audio programs they sometimes come with one.

I don't remember the name of the one on the MSI computer I had where the audio worked well but everything else was a mess but it was the best I've seen. This ACER has DTS which is okay but to use what it already has without specific headphones I need to use a wired connection which while once my preference suddenly I changed.

Still there are programs which will give you better control than the sound mixer which you should be able to pull up . The other thing is they may help with exterior sounds which is why I loved the program on my previous computer as it could create a noise cancelling situation no matter what headphones I had.

Headphones are your other issue. You can get ones that you can tune.. They are on the expensive side and so I arrived there by a process of wearing out other ones with a warranty and what was on sale So the ones I have are Skullcrusher but Sony also makes a very good pair. At the high end they reportedly even stand up to the nearly constant use of my autistic friends

It's a good time of year to be looking for hardware or programs . Obviously if you are going to use it with a console you need the tunable kind. Mine had an app so I could set it up the way I wanted it.

    Good luck.

Games without sound is not an accessibility solution that would suck.

If you altered an equalizer that would work well as a project so well that someone may already have done it.

Of the options I really like the tunable headphones as they work with everything but the price was why I didn't have them but now they are viewed as what my next pair has to be as good as so wearing them out so fast worked out in the end.

Will let you know if I find anything out there although the equalizer with modes idea - like presets you had has lot of merit.

You are 100 percent right that sound as an accessibility issue doesn't come up much when it is such a major one. Potentially it's harder for people to imagine versus traditional accessibility issues like with my right hand working less well there was already a good solution .

I'll post if I find anything that exists and I might bug someone who might be bored of just fiddling around with his sound equipment.

A good sound experience is possible it's just currently on the expensive side unless there are open source or android apps we haven't found yet although I am going to have a look will say if I find something promising.

In fact, I just think it's not very difficult to put a kind of equalizer, with options for different types of sensitivities. (taking the complexity out of an equalizer)

Digital Games - no more access

i thought the policy changed to include 360 games as well, no longer flagging them as permanently unlocked? Not retroactively, but moving forward from the policy change.
