Month on us but need credit card

My Xbox keeps offering me a month of Gold but wont let me have it without a credit card. My mum wont let me add her and I can't have one. How do I get the month.

The credit card billing information must match the account region. If your account is UK, you will need a UK credit card. To use your US credit card, it must be entered on a US account.

Pretty sure when you handed your credit card info over the first time there was fine print there that said your billing will begin when the free trial is up. They are obligated to inform you of this, but you're not obligated to read it.

I'm also pretty sure they stopped the one free month of Gold because it was so easy to abuse it and create a new gamertag when your month was up, getting a second month for free, and then a third month, and so on. Now you might still get the free month but your credit card number is on file, so to get a second month you'd presumably need a different credit card. Just guessing here.

 

you cant as it will need to auto renew at the end of that trial unless you cancel, if you want live then use prepay xbox live cards for convenience.

 

Yeah I'd go down the prepaid card route, I wouldn't enter any payment details that Microsoft can take repeated payments from as they will continue to take money long after you have cancelled it. And if you call them out on it they will admit the error but
wont refund your money. I've had to get my money back via PayPal, as Microsoft would rather lose a customer who spent £500+ on an Xbox One at launch than hand back £5.99 that they effectively stole.

 

thats incorrect, if you cancel auto renew through the website it cancels it and will not continue taking payment.

 

Yeah that's what I thought, but despite cancelling auto renew and receiving an email to confirm I'd cancelled it Microsoft continued to take money from my account, when I contacted them they effectively admitted the error but wouldn't refund the money. Fortunately
I paid via PayPal so I disputed the transaction and PayPal ruled in my favour.

Basically instead of simply refunding £5.99 and gaining goodwill for being decent, Microsoft instead opted to try and bilk me, then got kerb stomped by PayPal and had to refund the money anyway. This is one of the reasons people are buying a PS4 instead
of an Xbox One, despite all of the talk From Phil Spencer he can't change the fact that Microsoft is Microsoft, and people simply don't trust them for good reasons.
