  1. Monitors with Xbox series X/S

    Hi,

I have a HP 27xq monitor. This monitor runs @1440p resolution @144hz refresh rate and is freesync compatible. However...

There is an issue with the xbox series X/S recognising the timings present in the display. Without getting too technical this basically means that I can't utilise this monitor fully. I can select 1440p @60hz with freesnyc enabled but to use 120hz I have
to use the manual display settings by selecting 'HDMI' in 'overrides' in the advanced display menu on the console. Doing this will allow the console to run in 1080p @120hz BUT freesnyc is no longer allowed and this is a lower resolution. Preferably I woukd
like to be able to use my series S with this monitor @1440p @120hz with freesync as this monitor is capable of doing, but the console simply wont allow it.

    Long story short.....

I paid £300 for a gaming spec monitor that I cannot utilise due to the console not accepting non VESA standard timings.

Is there anyone from Microsoft/Xbox who can tell me whether this issue is being addressed or if it is even possible to fix. Is this something that an update can rectify? To allow non VESA standard timings to be accepted?

There are thousands of gamers out there that prefer to play on a monitor using a desktop setup like myself who are not able to use hardware they have invested in.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Xbox Series X doesn't support 1440p@120Hz with 1440p@144Hz monitor

In that case I highly recommend you see the monitor/TV in action with the console. That way you can verify that the monitor does support 120Hz on the Series X.

The Rtings website's reviews of Series X compatible monitors is a great way to start your search. These are professional TV/monitor reviewers, they test everything!

    HDMI Xbox Series S/X

    Hi,

There is more than enough bandwidth for 1440P @120Hz with HDR on an HDMI 2.0 Monitor. On the current consoles Microsoft decided to lock HDR to 4K displays, but with the Series S that won't be an issue anymore.

HDMI standards are backwards compatible, so you won't need an HDMI 2.1 compliant Monitor to use Series X or S on an older monitor or TV that only has HDMI 2.0.

Xbox One X and S can be very fussy when it comes to full monitor support. But if you bought a monitor that fully supports the Xbox One X then it should support the same features on a Series X/S.

My advice would be to check reviews of monitors actually running on the current consoles with 120Hz support. There are loads of videos on YouTube. Just looking at the specs on a website may not be enough.

Xbox one S gaming monitor compatibility

Most modern Monitors will work fine on the Xbox One S. Be aware though that while the One S supports 4K, it doesn't play games in 4K. Games on the One S are in 1080P (or lower and then upscaled).

Are you planning on upgrading to a Series X? If so, you should look at these.

Xbox Series X|S and lower resolutions

Does the 1080p support go for both the Series S and Series X, or just the Series S?
    1080p is supported by both Series X / S,

However if your only playing at 1080p and have no plan's of upgrading to a 4K TV / Monitor, The Xbox Series S would be recommended as is a 1080p / 1440p gaming console and you would save £/$200, than getting the Series X, as that is a 4K gaming console and
you would never get to use the full potential of it if used on a 1080p TV / Monitor.

    Xbox series s display options

    Hi,

Need some information here. What is the exact make and model of the monitor? Which console do you have? Original Xbox One, One S, One X, Series S or Series X?
