    Modifying/Adding files to Windows Store version of Outer Worlds


    Hello there. Why am I, the administrator of a computer that I built myself, am not allowed to Modify/Add files to the Windows Store version of Outer Worlds? Better yet, why am I not allowed to change ownership of the files in the games directory folder
    over to me? Every time I hit change, it reopens the window with the change function greyed out. It is my system and my game. I should be able to change and modify the files at my leisure. All I want is to be able to access the game's in-game console. Is that
    too much to ask?

    If you aren't signed in to Xbox Live in the game, it stored save file in a Local user profile. Just needed to go to Saved Games\The Outer Worlds Windows 10 folder user profile, and then move the files from LOCAL to the profile for Xbox Live

    I talked to them, but they didn't have a solution. I was thinking I could modify the registry to change the stored Windows OS version, or use a hex editor to modify the installer exe file?

    The path does not exist in the Windows Store version. I just checked

    Game Pass/ Windows Store games are encrypted and not able to be externally modified

    There is a free version of the Garmin already in the game's online store if that helps you

    It's best to word your question a little differently when it comes to PC games. Many of the users on this forum on not PC players and may take your question to mean something else entirely.

    I'm a PC (primarily) and a console gamer. I built my own gaming PC.

    What game are you having performance issues with?

    Unlike games from other providers such as Steam, Origin/EA, EPIC etc, most Windows Store games are installed to an encrypted folder that can not be changed by the end user (even if you take permission of it).

    Some games have settings files (ini files) located outside of the game install folder, usually in the Documents folder or the App/Data folder. For example, the Windows Store/Game Pass version of 'The Outer Worlds' has ini files that can be changed to turn off graphics settings such as 'Chromatic Aberration' that may not be in the games settings screen. But it really depends on the game.

    This is not considered cheating as it has no impact in the way the game is played, only how it performs or looks when played. Dedicated Windows 10 Store games such as Forza or Gears of War do not have these external settings.

    Other games that are designed to be 'modified' by the developer will be installed to the Windows 'ModifiableWindowsApps' folder
