1. Moderate NAT

Hi, PLEASE READ THE POST BEFORE DIRECTING ME SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I have a motorola SBG900 and a Belkin N600 Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router. Two days ago I did a connection check in the Xbox 360 and got moderate NAT.

I have both firewalls disabled in the modem and router. The following port forwarded in the router 53, 80, 88, 1863, 3074 and 4074. Also have the Xbox's IP address as DMZ and I have UPnP enabled. Yet, I have moderate NAT. I'm using the Microsoft - Wireless
N Network Adapter for Xbox 360. I also tried an ethernet connection and still had moderate.

I watched youtube videos but still no help. Any ideas?

    :)

does ethernet xbox one download faster?

and I were actually talking about this the other day.

In both of our situations, our NAT is moderate via wifi, but open via ethernet cable.

does ethernet xbox one download faster?

Sort of on topic: Will ethernet open up the NAT? Just changed routers and my NAT is now moderate vs. open before.

  6. Go to system settings > then network settings > then depending on whether you are wired or wireless select test xbox live connection > wait for it to finish > then check you NAT (you can use Call of Duty games for this as they always say you NAT type at
the bottom of the screens) > if its not changed carry out the procedure again then check again. If that doesn't work turn the router off for 30 seconds then retry the whole procedure.

    Honestly works for me everytime.

    Greetings Metaphorically!

I highly suspect that your Motorola SBG900 is the culprit, if this device is also providing the functionality of doing NAT. With multiple layers of NAT, (Motorola SBG900 + Belkin N600) on your network, will break the fundamental rule for UDP over NAT traversal.

Please verify, if your SBG900 is a combined modem and router (built-in into single device).

Is the Motorola SBG900 deployed by your ISP?

  8. Moderate NAT

I have had the modem for 4 years, and the router for 1 year and it was always open. Last time I ran a network check it came up moderate. Every time before that it was open. I ran it both hardwired and wireless and same results. I did the 30 second restart
for the router and modem and doesn't work.

The SBG900 wasn't provided by my ISP. It is a router and a modem together. I have disabled the router functionality for the modem to use the Belkin.

Could you access the web-utility interface on the Motorola. Go to the status page, more specifically, the WAN/Internet IP address entry. Could you post up the numbers from the first two octets of the WAN/Internet IP address. For example,
    192.168.XXX.XXX.
It is a router and a modem together. I have disabled the router functionality for the modem to use the Belkin.
Could you detailing out how you've configure your Motorola to be operating in bridge mode.

If you haven't already, visit Belkin website and make sure your router (model number and hardware revision number) is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

I'm not sure how well this specific Belkin router implement/support UPnP. But, your first choice would be to try use UPnP only, as the method to port map specific endpoints.

Post back and let us know how that goes and we'll go from there.

  12. Taidara, I don't understand your first request. Is this what you're asking for?

    LAN IP Address: 192.168.0.1

My thought process was, if the SBG900 was a modem and a router and I wanted to use another router then they would conflict with each other. Therefore, I went into SBG900 and I disabled the wireless option which is the router side of it. It was "instinctual"
    and that's how it went.

I'm going to disable all of the router ports and DMZ in Belkin and try to use only UPnP.

  13. Moderate NAT

I disabled the DMZ for the Xbox in the router, forwarded ports and only kept the UPnP on. I also, disabled the DMZ for the router's address in the modem. When I ran the network test I didn't get moderate NAT warning sign whether I was hardwired or wirelessly
    connected.

I disabled DMZ, forwarded ports and UPnP and tried each one by itself before posting the topic but it didn't work. Not sure what happened this time. Thanks for your help Taidara and everyone else.
, I don't understand your first request. Is this what you're asking for?

    LAN IP Address: 192.168.0.1
I'm asking for the WAN IP address, that your Belkin router obtains from your Motorola. This address should be public and not an address within the private range of an IP address.

Go to the status page of your Belkin and under Internet Settings, you'll see the
WAN IP address. Make sure you only post the two first octets from this address. For example.
    192.168
My thought process was, if the SBG900 was a modem and a router and I wanted to use another router then they would conflict with each other.
Correct!
Therefore, I went into SBG900 and I disabled the wireless option which is the router side of it. It was "instinctual" and that's how it went.
You'll will also have to turn off the
NAT (Network Address Translation) function for the SBG900. This is the most important step.

Have you ensured that your Belkin router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware?

Have your console's network settings set to obtain IP and DNS settings automatic and use only UPnP on your Belkin router. Do not forward network ports, used by Xbox LIVE, manually and keep DMZ disabled.

    Keep us posted!
