Moderate NAT Type and network behind a upnp port restricted nat

    Hello,

When I start my Xbox one up I always get a moderate NAT-type. When I check my multiplayer connection and hold down LT + RT + LB + RB it says that my network is behind a UPnP port restricted NAT.

My XBOX one has a Lan connection and I have a wifi router (Linksys E2500) and a modem (Ubee evw321b).

I have tried to portforward all the ports that Xbox has provided on their site through the router website but it hasn't helped.

    Can anyone help me?

    :)

    Port forwarding question

I have discovered why my X1 reports a Strict or Moderate NAT sometimes and it's after one of the 360s uses one of the ports the X1 needs. As soon as a Live port is used for a 360 via UPnP, 3074 for example, the X1 drops to Strict.

This is exactly the reason why I use UPnP, because if 360 1 is using 3074, UPnP will map 360 2 to a different port number that grants the same access as 3074 allowing both to communicate with the Live service at the same time, thus granting an Open NAT to all connected 360s. The X1 is not triggering port forwarding via UPnP to utilise this feature, so is the device that suffers when a 360 is in use.

The PS3 used to have a UPnP enable/disable option on the console itself, which I thought was odd, but perhaps if the 360 had this, enabling it would tell the console to use UPnP, which once it uses UPnP to trigger the ports I'm sure it will resolve the multiple device issue.

    For reference:

    • When I have an Open NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a cone NAT
    • When I have a Moderate NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a port-restricted NAT
    • When I have a Strict NAT, the X1's Detailed NAT Information says: Your network is behind a port-preserving port-symmetric NAT

    Hi,

You have two networking devices performing Network Address Translation (NAT), so if you could verify that the Ubee evw321b is operating in bridge, or pass-through mode.

Also make sure your Linksys is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

On your Linksys, you may also want to untick "Filter/block Anonymous Internet Requests"

    Hi,

I unticked the box and I recently updated my firmware on my Linksys.

The Ubee evw321b is operating in bridge mode.

Do you have the option to bypass the Linksys and connect your Xbox directly into the Ubee device?

Do have more than one Xbox console connected to the same router/NAT Internet connection?

Remove the port forwarding rule that you configured and make sure UPnP is ticked enable and reboot the Linksys.

I suggest that you keep on doing the LT RT... Combo, to avoid those cached NAT mapping values that your console keep track of.

I do not have the option to bypass the Linksys system.

I only have one Xbox one console connected. No other gaming systems.

I have removed the port forwarding rules and UPnP is enabled.

I have rebooted the Linksys device.

    It still says moderate.

Open a web browser and log in to the web-uitlity interface of your Linksys. Browse to where it shows the IP address of its WAN/Internet interface. This should be the IP address assigned by your ISP.

Open a second browser session and go to:
    http://checkip.dyndns.com/

Now, compare these two addresses and let me know if they are the same IP address.

Have you tried to assign your console's IP address in the DMZ of your router? If you do this, make sure you disable UPnP.

    Keep us posted.

    @taidara

The IP addresses are not the same.

I assigned my console's IP address in the DMZ of my router and I disabled UPnP. My xbox now said: your network is behind a port restricted NAT. So I tried portforwarding again and now I have an open NAT-type! Thank you very much.

    @Rozilla

I have an IPv4, but it doesn't matter anymore

I knew it would fall back.

Your problem is not related to forwarding rules, but multiple layers if NAT.

Did you, or did your ISP configured your Ubee gateway to operate in bridge mode?

The WAN/Internet IP address off your Linksys router, could you post up the first two octets (dotted notations) of this address.

I thought they did it, but i'm not so sure anymore. They made it so that I can't do it myself so i would have to contact them if I want to ask them.

That's a private (NATd) IP address.

Contact your service provider and ask them to bridge your Ubee device.

Make sure the IP address, obtained by your ISP, is a public routable address.
