Moderate NAT issues

Ok we currently own 2 xbox's and have purchased a new router to try to help with our network issues. My husband and I play a lot of destiny together.

I have tried port forwarding and so far has not opened our NAT. I read somewhere that our new wireless router may not be able to "handle" the 2 systems. Wondering if we should return this one and purchase a different one. Our router is a NETGEAR WNDR4300.

If anyone else has any advise to help out it would be greatly appreciated.

Weird issue with mic

Sounds like NAT or network issues. Sometimes when two people have a certain network config you can play and chat with other people just fine, but not someone else with your same issue.

My wife and I used to have a similar issue with chat in OG Destiny. Check your NAT and make sure it is open not moderate or strict.

In both of our situations, our NAT is moderate via wifi, but open via ethernet cable.

This is a NAT issue alright. You only have one external internet address, that you got from your ISP. So both consoles on the inside share that external ip when they access internet through your modem. One port can only be used by one console at a time.
On the console, go to Settings and then Network, it will show you what kind of NAT settings the xbox has detected.

Xbox live uses specific ports (plus games use their owns too) and those ports needs to be opened and forwarded to your xbox. Well, Port Forwarding works fine when you have just one xbox. Because you can’t forward the same port to two destinations, it’s a
1-to-1 relationship. If you do setup Port Forwarding, you may get one of the xboxes to work fine, but the other will have issues with voice chat and playing games with others.

The solution to the whole problem is to use something called UPnP. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a set of networking protocols that permits networked devices, such as personal computers, printers, Internet gateways, Wi-Fi access points and mobile devices
to seamlessly discover each other’s presence on the network and establish functional network services for data sharing, communications, and entertainment.

Contact your net provider and make sure that your router has full UPnP support.

the netgear should be fine , what are you using for a modem (brand and model #) ? that may be the bad guy here....

No worries, just wanted to make sure I understood all the steps.

I did everything you said and the first test was behind a cone restricted NAT, and Open, and after 15-30mins I did the test again and it's behind a port restricted, and moderate NAT again.

I'm sorry; I think my first post was a little confusing. The "most recent" configuration to which I was referring was not on my school network. The school network is hard-wired through a network switch in my room straight into the school network. I have
tried taking the network switch out of the equation, with no improvement. No matter what network I am on (school, home, at a friend's house, etc.) it gives me the NAT error, even when other Xbox consoles have no problem with the settings. I still think that
it must be an issue on the console itself (though I know I may very well be wrong). It's just that no matter how I configure my home network there is no change in the error message.

You replaced your previous network equipment where you had a restricted NAT, with this new device (ZTE ZXDSL 931WIIV) and now you have the exact same problem with your NAT?

Make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

When you say that you have tried with UPnP enabled, at the same time, was Port Forwarding disabled and vice versa?

Access your router and go to the WAN overview of your router. Try and see if you can find an entry related to the term Fullcone NAT. If this is to be found can you tell us if this is disabled or enabled.

Thanks for the tip, I don't really know anything about Port Forwarding.

For your troubleshooting, I understand all steps besides this one:

"Instaed of manually forwarding network ports, used by applications running on your Xbox One, try to reserve a unique address (not in use), by using DHCP reservation."

Is that a step, or a tip for the future? If it's a step I don't know how to use DHCP reservation.
