Missing functionality and faulty software/hardware needs to be addressed with an UPDATE

This is true, Stuart, this could be a problem with the System or Power Supply, definitely not a normal problem.

Also, make sure your power supply is plugged directly into a wall and not into a surge protector, as this will cause issues.

If it turns off when you boot it, then your console might be faulty or you may have a faulty power supply unit.

As ive said software dont cause hardware faults. the hardware is faulty to begin with. My 360 S has been fine with every update

From Miss Portia's latest message, it appears that Microsoft's proposed solution is for the customer to send the Kinect unit in for repair, which, according to the web page she linked to, is free if still under warranty and $80 or $90 if not under warranty.
When she says "it is a Kinect fault" and we need to "repair the Kinect sensor itself", it sounds like she is saying this is a hardware problem. However, it seems rather clear that this problem was caused by a Microsoft software update, and therefore is not
a hardware problem. The Kinect hardware was working fine until the recent software update. Microsoft's software is not allowing us to use the Kinect hardware which we know works fine. It is not reasonable that we should pay to "repair" a problem that was
caused by an error in Microsoft's software.

Try sending a voice message and listen to it after, if you can hear the recording that means the hardware is fine (controller/adapter/headset). If not then 1 piece of hardware needs to be replaced. Switch around with other available hardware pieces to isolate
the faulty one (different headsets/controllers/adapters).

If it's not a hardware issue, try with another profile: if it works it means it's not connectivity/console software and it might be profile related (privacy settings maybe - set it to adult).

If it doesn't work with another profile then it can be either connectivity (try wired connection/open ports/enable DMZ) or console software (try the Offline Update Diagnostic Tool or restore to defaults).
