Missing 50 GB of Hard Drive Space?

I have an Xbox One with a 500 GB Hard Drive. I know the OS takes a lot of space on the Hard Drive leaving around 360 GB of usable space. The thing is, according to that information, I am missing around 50 GB of space.

I did the math to calculate all the space my games are taking:

62.7 GB - Halo Master Chief Collection

54.8 GB - Halo 5

49.9 GB - GTA V

38 GB - Witcher 3

37.9 GB - Battlefield 4

8.6 GB - Borderlands (BC)

7.6 GB - Mass Effect (BC)

7.4 GB - Gears of War (BC)

4.6 GB - The Walking Dead

1.3 GB - Valiant Hearts

TOTAL: 272.8 GB

If we add the 37.7 GB of remaining space my console says it has left that gives us a final total of
310.5 GB

So, if there really are 360 GB of usable hard drive space, what happened to those missing ~50 GB? Are those reserved by the system as a restore point because I am on the NXOE preview?

500 GB Hard Drive

Dont know how you feel about the hard drive in the xbox one, but I personally think that the hard drive should of been at least 1 TB and not 500 GB. I also wonder why they made it so the hard drive cant be taken out and upgraded like you can with the 360. I know that eventually you will be able to hook up a external hard drive, but not at launch so hopefully sooner than later. The 500 GB would be fine, but from my understanding if you buy the games on disc they have to be installed and from what I have read online the install gaming sizes are in the 30 to 50 gb range. What do you think? Also take into account that 4K television is in its early stages and with that comes 4k blu ray disc that can hold at least 100 gb if not more and my thinking is in the future we could see games in the 100 gb or more. Killzone Shadow Fall for the PS4 is 290 gb before they compress it down to 50 or 40 gb just to give you an idea of how big the games are already.

Why will my Xbox 360 Slim not play original Xbox games?

It would be the hard drive. The only official MS hard drives for the Slim are the 250gb and 320gb. There is no 50 gb. You need an official MS hard drive in order to play Xbox games.

It could be that you're missing space because of the NXOE. I would suggest posting in the preview forums to which I've linked below. The folks over there would be the best ones to tell you if you're missing space due to that. You were correct in stating
that non-preview consoles have about 360GB usable space. You didn't mention your apps, profile, and game save space. That all takes room as well.

So the max you can increase your hard drive is to use two 32 GB USB drives to get 64 GB more space ? Then your unable to plug in an external hard drive of 500 GB ? My console hard drive of 250 GB is full. I had hope there was a way use a external hard
drive of 500 GB. Then essentially I could buy sixteen 32 GB USB drives to get 512 GB of space.

Using the calculation that defines the difference between the GB's that the manufacturer of a storage device stated available and the space that system can see, a 320GB hard drive will have about 297GB, of which several GB's will be taken by the console
as a hard drive cache. That is where your missing GB's have gone.

Without getting complicated, the simple rule is that there is roughly 930 MB's per stated GB. The hard drive in my PC is sold as a 1TB drive, but in actual fact it has 930GB free. The other 70 odd GB's are lost in translation.

If we are required to install games to our hard drive, what do we do when we run out of space? 500 GB = 50 BD games. There are people out there, me included, that own more that 50 retail games.

I wonder what will happen if the game was deleted from the console? Can it be reinstalled for FREE?
