Minecraft Windows10/Bedrock edition - Stuck on "locating server" screen

Hi there,

I cannot seem to connect to my friends server.

I have been able to play fine for the last few days, however when I tried to connect this morning it is getting stuck on the "locating server" screen.

I have tried on multiple platforms (switch, PC and xbox) and am getting the same issue.

It doesnt seem to be the platform, or the internet as I have logged into my xbox using someone elses account and they have been able to get into the server just fine.

It seems to be an issue with my account, however I have no idea how to fix it.

Any suggestions? This is really frustrating.

I have also contacted the server owner, who has tried restarting the server and I still cannot get in.

Have you tried port forwarding? Sometimes this helps us to improve our communication between our devices and the servers!

These are the ports you need to open:

TCP: 3478-3480,5223,8080.

UDP: 3074,3478-3479,3658.

I know this is an old thread and hope it gets a response but I literally did ALL the steps from this and still just has the same "locating server" problem.

Hi there Hayes welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. I suggest you try these basic troubleshooting steps!

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available;

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services.

Then try this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

If it still doesn't work you're going to uninstall the games services using a powershell command, then you're going to open the gamepass app, it will ask you to download and install the game services again :

In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC, then open your Xbox gamepass app, it will ask you to install the gaming services again, install it and try again.
