Minecraft Windows 10 and Pocket Edition not playing nicely.

Hi all,

With the corona lockdown, I got my oldest daughter minecraft pocket edition for her iPad to play with her friends from school to let them keep in touch. She's also excited about the idea of me and her playing together.

Now, I played minecraft back in the java/mojang days and am familar enough with that, but switched over to Windows 10 edition for this as I found it easier to get up and running for multiplayer.

After abit of fussing on my computer to get xbox live logging it alright, I'm signed in, the game reckonizes my xbox account, and I can connect to my daughter's ipad game.

HOWEVER, really weird issue! I can invite her into my game on the computer, and/or she can try and join me on my games, but for some reason the ipad can't seem to connect to the PC game world - keeps trying to connect but bombs out with 'Unable to connect
to world'.

Its not a huge problem as we can just play in her world, but my PC is significantly more powerful than the ipad and as such I'd prefer to run it from my PC.

Any idea's what the issue is between the two, or ideas on how I can investigate and resolve?

i found troubleshooting steps for you to try

Ensure "local server multiplayer" is enabled in options.

Ensure none of the devices is using a VPN.

Ensure ALL of the devices have the latest version of Minecraft PE. If that's not so, there's no way it's going to work.

To update an app on iOS:

Open App Store app from home screen.
Browse into updates tab.
Scroll down to find Minecraft PE.
Press the "UPDATE" button next to the game.
If needed insert Apple ID password.
Wait for update to finish.

Repeat this for all iPads.

Ensure all the iPads have A DIFFERENT MINECRAFT NAME!

You can change the name in Options menu, from "Steve" to something else.

If it still doesn't work, this might be a issue with Unique Device Identifier of Minecraft. Reset it by uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft PE. This will unfortunately remove the worlds.

Thanks for the tips:

I'm afraid I couldn't find a settings label 'local server multiplayer' anywhere in minecraft (I did find "Multiplayer Game" and "Visible to LAN players" on my game settings and both are enabled).

I made sure my VPN was turned off ahead of time as that had caused issues with xbox live.

I've a couple of ideas to try this evening and will let you know if they work.

Looked through some of the help articles - man the information is confusing.

Anyways from what I'm inferring from the posts is that you can play Windows 10 to Windows 10, and Pocket Edition to Windows 10 and that's it right now.
