Have you ever wanted to play an RPG You can help create? Do you not have the money to buy programming, or just want to play an RPG? Hi, it's the Orange Knight here with the RPG World! With this, you can go from boredom to fun! It's that easy!

But in all seriousness,

Rules are applied: You can form teams of up to three people, PVP is Turn-Based, And you can use an Item on the same turn as an attack! Effects such as poison and fire will require you to wait until it ends to begin your turn, unless you have, for example,
Milk for the poison. Shops exist, But if you steal, you will die in just about 4.5 seconds. Same thing with the spawn chests. Any thief will be punished, although Stealing items from people that you've killed is allowed.

There is a leaderboard, Building is allowed, AND if you're up to it, you can challenge me to a fight.

ITEMS: Potions, Food, Fire charges. No building is allowed during fights.

:)

Can Dragon's Dogma Be The New TES: Skyrim

I've joined multiple covenants and have seen no extra side quests or storylines from them. All they do is give you access to equipment from certain merchants. And I am aware of the two different endings, which have nothing to do with roleplaying it's just
a matter of lighting the fire or not lighting it, nothing to do with choices during the game. Army of two:TFD has 3 endings. Nothing to do with Roleplaying.

The "strict Guidelines" that a game must follow to be an RPG is it must actually have roleplaying with in it. That is a pretty simple concept. Other than that it could be Mario Kart super RPG for all I care.

Ok so what exactly do you mean by roleplaying? aren't you doing that exact thing in pretty much every game? you play the role of a character whether your own or another.

What are these Classic RPG conventions you speak of? Leveling? Experience? Stat management? Those are mechanics and do not require roleplaying, nor do they define a Roleplaying game.

So Final Fantasy isn't an RPG nor is it Dragon's Quest, some of the oldest examples of the RPG genre, gotcha.

Oh and No I don't 1 star your posts, I don't even rate them. if I did I would have to give you at least a 3 after deducting points for your differing opinion.

Good to know

It puzzles me why you seem to have a problem with games these days that utilize old mechanics and are called RPGs but now if a game has them it isn't an RPG.

Many of the greatest RPG games in the past had little user input into the story you were more like an observer rather than taking the role of a character and yet they were and still are called RPGs.
Roleplaying is roleplaying. Look up the definition if you are unsure of whaty it means, I have already explained it several times over the last few years. If you chose to ignore it or could not understand the simple concept then I cannot help you. The language
barrier might be getting in the way. You will need to help yourself. But Roleplaying is not leveling up and adding +5 to your strength and thinking "Woots! Now I can wield that +100 Great Sword of Pink Fluffy Fairy dust."

I've never consider FF to be a Roleplaying game, it's always been a linear turn based strategy game to me. The whole stats , levels etc originated in turned based strategy games, it was adapted to Roleplaying Games to give rules to events and actions that
could not be determined through roleplaying alone. They are not need when it comes to Console or PC RPG's. Based on your beliefs Deus Ex is not a Role Playing Game? Yet it is one of the best of the last few years. Even the original AD&D games were not RPG's,
But Strategy games, they were made by Strategic Simulations after all.

The Japanese games you label as RPG's are not, Just because the language barrier and a misunderstanding on their side means they mistakenly labeled them RPG's doesn't make it so. When Anime first hit the western world it was refered to as Manga. Because people
did not understand that Manga was the comic book form the Anime was based on, they didn't differentiate. Westerners actually learned the error and changed, japan hasn't and has continued to focus on the mechanics of early RPG's rather than what Roleplaying
actually is.

Stat management and levels is not Roleplaying. It is just a game mechanic. Roleplaying is roleplaying, without roleplaying a game is not an RPG.

As for the Covenant sidequest thing, I will look more into that and see if it is roleplaying or just side quests gained by fetching items and handing them to the covenant giver. Which it most likely is. Still like to point out again for those that missed the
point. Side quests are not Role Playing.

I still believe a lot of people think that it is the mechanics that make a game a Role Playing game. mechanics mean nothing. they are just a tool, as much as pressing A for everything is.
I do agree that immersion and storytelling is part of what makes an RPG an RPG but at the same time I also think that game mechanics found in RPGs and became staple of that genre (including pen and paper ones) like leveling up and skill managment still makes
a game an RPG.

Now, if a game's main focus is lets say Strategy but it has RPG elements then no it isn't an RPG, but still shares game mechanics found in them.

I played the original Deus Ex on PC when it came out, I liked it but I don't think of it as an RPG exclusively, I would say its a Shooter RPG.

WarCraft 3 introduced a leveling system with the hero class of units in your army, that to me is an RPG mechanic as RTS didn't have it before but at the same time I cannot label WC3 as an RPG because the main mechanics are still strategy, unit training and
base building, still, those classic RPG mechanics are there.

Now if you want to debate that game mechanics don't make a game an RPG I think we'll be in disagreement, because game mechanics (gameplay) is key in a game. Its what separates a shooter from a RTS or an RPG from a racing game.

And its not like RPGs are the only who have shared gameplay mechanics, you can see Shooters with strategy elements or racing games with shooter mechanics.

Im pretty sure we see this differently, but if it only takes immersion and roleplay (something you do in every game) to be an RPG, then any game could be an RPG.

I think people are getting mixed up by what an RPG is
I think that's exactly most people's problem. It seems like every game that comes out of Japan, everyone wants to call it an RPG because... they never explain.--They just get upset, as if someone is saying it isn't a good game because it isn't an
RPG. Also, most people pretend an RPG means anything they want it to be.--It isn't. It's a well defined genre in video gameing.
Because it doesn't have any roleplaying in it. It is Dodge, Parry, Block, Kill, Run, Jump, Shop, Join Covenant , Kill Boss, Repeat, finish game. There are no branching conversation trees, No multiple quest paths, no actual roleplaying contained within. It
is a fantastic Adventure hack and slash game for sure, but if it is supposed to be a roleplaying game then it fails miserably in that category. Dark Souls has more in common with Dynasty Warriors than a roleplaying game, and I do not know who decided to come
up with the term "Action RPG" to label Hack and Slash games with leveling mechanics. Because all RPG's have action ( with the exception of the sims), and if you decide to focus on the action and forego roleplaying, then it isn't a roleplaying game at all.
I haven't seen the next page yet... but I assume people will want to pick this apart in every way possible. That's why I don't like listing what makes a game an RPG, because others just use it as "just my opinion" thats up for debate. But seriously,
this is exactly what makes an RPG... the "roleplaying." you take the aspect of roleplaying (thats in every game) and you write it into the code of the gameplay, making a game out of it--an RPG. without this, its just something else. Nice, post, Tatakai.
