Minecraft realms: Chat not showing up

My daughters are both playing on a realm that the eldest has paid for and yet the younger one can not see any chat. I have checked her account privacy settings and there is nothing preventing her. She can chat on a lan game and servers but on her sisters realm she cannot see anyones messages and they can't see hers. I've spent the last 2 hours trying everything and nothing has resolved the issue.

I tried the mojang help link provided but we cannot find her transaction number.

I do not understand why I'm paying for them to have a realm when the chat doesn't work and there are so many people saying they have the same issue when I Google it, all with no success at solving it.

How can I go about fixing this for her as she is getting quite upset at feeling left out.

I have just had a look at it shows you have to have a 10 user subscription to get a free trial.

We offer a free 30-day trial of Minecraft Realms to players who have not previously had a Realm and have signed up for a 10-user subscription.
