Minecraft Preview is Not Available on Xbox App

If you're seeing that the game is not available on the Xbox App it may mean that it's not available for your region.

I just checked Minecraft Preview for Windows and it's available for me to install on the Xbox App. Please make sure that your PC region is set up correctly where the game/game pass is supported.

Be sure to back up your worlds first! Open the Xbox Insider Hub app and unenroll from Minecraft Preview. Uninstall Minecraft. Reinstall Minecraft from the Microsoft Store app.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox Communities Forum. There are multiple places you can download the Minecraft Preview on Windows: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/articles/4423653831821

Minecraft Launcher:

Open the Minecraft Launcher.
Select Minecraft for Windows.
Select the dropdown that says Latest release.
Select Latest preview.
Click the Install button.

Xbox app:

Open the Xbox app.
Search Minecraft Preview for Windows.
Click Install.

There are multiple solutions to this problem. It depends on whether there is an update available or not. Please check the "Updates" section in "My Games and Apps" to make sure that there is no update for Minecraft available. If there is, try installing it,
it should probably fix it. If not, then I would recommend installing the Beta preview for the game on both your/your son's console as well as on the console of his friends. You/He/They can do so by installing the "Xbox Insider Hub" app from the Microsoft Store.
There You/They/He can enroll into the Minecraft Beta. Please be advised that this is a Preview of the game and might be unstable. Once You/He/They are enrolled, please check for updates again under "My Games and Apps".
