Minecraft PC/Windows 10 issue

I recently purchased Minecraft for Windows 10 so that I could play with my daughter who lives in another state. She bought hers directly from the minecraft.net site which gives you the Java version.

The 10 and Java version are not compatible and we cannot play together. Thinking I just needed to download the java version and log in, I come to find out that it isn't linked with xbox or microsoft in any way as far as a login goes. So I would have to
pay again for a product I already own for the same platform?

I find it kind of ridiculous that all accounts wouldn't be linked across every version and every port. I shouldn't have to buy a Java version if I own the Win 10 version. I don't see this as the same as PC vs console versions. I get that those are two different
platforms and you need to buy one for each, but we are talking about PC. Two separate paid versions for PC. With no warning that they are not compatible whatsoever.

I am sure I am going to get the same answer here but customer service said I should post in the forum. Anyway that's what is going on

Is there a specific error code that you get with that error message? It sounds like there may a network issue, or there may be other software installed on your Windows 10 PC that may be interfering with connecting to the game's servers. To start, let's try
uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition from your Windows 10 PC. You can uninstall Minecraft from the app list within the Start Menu on Windows 10, and reinstall the game through the Windows Store.

Error message "It looks like you don’t own Minecraft for PC/Mac."

To change your skin in minecraft windows 10 edition, click your character on the main menu. The website you're trying to use is for the original minecraft for pc, or commonly known as java minecraft. Even though both games are minecraft for pc, they are
totally different products. That explains the error you're receiving; you don't actually own minecraft for pc/mac, you own minecraft for windows 10.

Content sharing on Windows 10 is possible through user configuration within the "Family" group.

Only the New version of Minecraft called "Minecraft" will be able to be played Cross Platform. The previous Minecraft version on PC has been renamed to Minecraft: Java Edition to help differentiate the two. More info on that

HERE. Minecraft is not an Xbox Play Anywhere title so you would need to purchase the game on any different device you wish to play on. If you're both running the Java Edition, you should be able to play, but the steps to do so would be different.

That said, I may have a bit of good news for you. Players who own the "Java Edition" can access a free copy of the Windows 10 version of Minecraft. Which will allow you to be able to play across platforms. For more information and steps to get the Windows
