Minecraft on an iPad for your Child

You search around and find that Minecraft is able to be played cross platform or that you can set it up on an iPad for your child to play with friends. Then you go absolutely bonkers by the ridiculousness of getting it setup to work when there are no real
clear cut instructions on how to do so. I've been beating my head against the wall for the last hour trying to figure this out because I have yet to find one solid answer on this. I hope others see this and it saves them the hour or hours of frustration that
I have been dealing with to get Minecraft up and running on an iPad for their child and then be able to add friends to play with.

These instructions below are pretty good. They are about 80% complete and from a post back on April 10, 2020 by 'XBF Brad A'. I would have replied there, but the thread is locked. The detail that is confusing most of us parents is that we were instructed
to sign up for a Microsoft Account to get this going. Nowhere did it say anything about an Xbox account. And why would you even think that if you were trying to get a game on the iPad to work. I don't own an Xbox, don't plan to, and I'm tired of needing an
account to do anything on the internet these days. WHY DO I NEED MORE???

    So, modifying the instructions below...

    1. Login to your Microsoft account.

    2. Click on 'Your Info' on the top left of the screen.

    3. Scroll down and click on 'Go to your Xbox Profile'.

    4. You will see a new Xbox profile page. Just about eye level on the screen you will see a button for 'Privacy Settings'. Click That.

    5. Again, about eye level, you will see your account and your child's account (or gamer tag from Minecraft). You need to click on those to change settings.

    6. Once you click on your child's profile, another banner type list of options comes up just below your profile name - you want to change settings on 'Privacy' and 'Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety'.

    7. Under Privacy, I changed this - 'You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice & text' to In-Game Friends. I scrolled down and clicked submit.

    8. Under Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety, I changed - 'You can play with people outside of Xbox Live' to ALLOW. I scrolled down and clicked submit.

    9. I made sure those exact settings where changed under my Xbox profile too. Just to be safe. Why not?

    10. Log out of the Microsoft Account in the Minecraft settings.

    11. Log out of your adult Microsoft Account.

    12. Wait a few minutes for this information to update and then sign back in to the child's Microsoft Account in Minecraft. I navigated to the Add Friends function in Minecraft and FINALLY, I got to a screen that let me lookup gamertag names. Whew.

    13. I had to do steps 10 and 11 a couple of times before it worked. Maybe I didn't wait long enough? Who knows, but it now works.

So, not as simple as made out to be in the steps below. I sure hope this saves more parents the aggravation.

    XBF Brad A

    Hi Brent,

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue. Sounds like the cross play is not enabled in settings, were you able to look at the
privacy and online settings? We will give you the
steps to change the exact ones for the cross platform use.

    1. You will go to the Xbox websiteand sign in.

    2. Once signed in, click your picture top right corner go to Xbox profile.

    3. Click on privacy settings.

    4. Once in settings, under the picture see Privacy, Xbox One/Windows 10 online safety. Select the Xbox one/Windows 10 online safety.

    5. You will see you gamertag you are looking for one setting:

    6. The two you want to make sure say allow and everybody are:
      1. "you can play with people outside of Xbox live" set to allow

      2. Now click on privacy you are looking for one setting:

"you can communicate outside of Xbox live with voice and text" set to allow

    Hope this helps.

    Brad

    Can't Launch Minecraft

I'm trying to log on via my desktop PC. I set up an account for my child to use on the iPad and it works fine there, but I can't log on and access Minecraft with my child's account on my desktop PC.

    Minecraft account

In this case, please try to uninstall Minecraft PE from your iPad.

Restart your iPad and install Minecraft PE again.

Try to play it and please let me know how it goes.

How do I play Minecraft with someone else?

Hello Jon, My name is David. I am an independent advisor, happy to help you today.

I understand your frustration at not being able to play Minecraft together with your child on iOS. Sometimes connectivity issues can be difficult to fix, but let's try a few steps to see if we can resolve the issue:

Check network connectivity: Make sure both devices (your iPad and your child's iPad) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. You mentioned that you allowed local network access in Apple's network settings, which is a good step. However, check that both devices have a strong and stable Wi-Fi connection.

Update Minecraft: Make sure both iPads have the latest version of Minecraft installed. Outdated versions can sometimes cause compatibility issues when trying to connect to each other. You can update the game through the App Store on each device.

Restart the devices: Try restarting both iPads to refresh your network connections and clear up any temporary issues. Turn them off completely, wait a few seconds, and then turn them back on.

Check multiplayer settings: In Minecraft, go to the game settings on both iPads and verify that multiplayer is enabled. Open Minecraft, go to Settings, and make sure “Multiplayer Play” is turned on.

If you are not signed in, use Xbox Live accounts: Create or sign in with Xbox Live accounts on both iPads. This will allow you to add each other as friends and join each other's worlds more easily. In Minecraft, go to Settings, select "Profile," and sign in or create an Xbox Live account.

Add each other as friends: On each iPad, go to the Friends tab in Minecraft and add each other as friends using your Xbox Live usernames. Make sure you both accept friend requests.

Try different hosting methods: If the “Friends who can join” method does not work consistently, you can also try using the “Invite to play” option. One person can start a world and then send an invitation to the other person's Xbox Live username.

Check your security or firewall settings: If you have any firewalls or security apps on your iPads, make sure they are not blocking Minecraft network access. Temporarily disabling them or setting them to allow Minecraft connections can help fix problems.

If you've tried these steps and are still having difficulty, it may be helpful to contact the Minecraft support team. They can provide more specific guidance and resolve the issue directly with you.

    I hope this helps.
    Best regards.
