Minecraft no longer launches. Has migrating from Java to Microsoft begun?

My kids have one minecraft account each, so I have tried three different accounts on three different computers - and today none of them are able to start Minecraft. Mojang writes that "With the new change over to Microsoft accounts for Minecraft: Java Edition you may encounter issues with your Microsoft account" I am not aware of any change, but with nothing working, I really do not know what to do. Mojang writes: "We have not started migrating any accounts yet. We’ll let you know in the launcher when your account is ready to be migrated. " - but with the launcher not launching anything anymore, I can only assume the migration has started, but is failing somehow.

I tried reinstalling, I tried running as administrator, I updated Java - but nothing seems to work.

Is the case that java-minecraft will be moved to Microsoft, and is that why the program is no longer starting? Can I simply download the Windows 10 version, (without paying again) and then it will work. Will my kids then loose all their old worlds?

And, I am running Minecraft Java on a PC, not an Xbox, but questions are supposed to (according to Mojang) go to Microsoft and Xbox.com.

Today I tried again. I uninstalled Minecraft, downloaded it again, and reinstalled. The difference is that today it worked just fine. I tried the same on two more computers, and the first worked fine (uninsatall/reinstall) while the other failed to start the launcher. What I tried then was to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall - and that worked just fine.

So, my problems are solved - except that I still do not know what happened that made Minecraft stop working on all the devices.

So: Uninstall - reboot - reinstall -play.

I already did a reboot, a reinstall, a windows-update check, a ping, used a different user, used a different account and updated java. I do not get any error messages or log-messages that I can find. I have not checked a possible ban, but if all my kids have been banned from minecraft overnight (only two played on monday) that too sounds more like a server side error.

Minecraft worked fine on monday 19th (on at least two of the three computers), but not on tuesday 20th, for three different computers running different accounts.

To me that seems like a strong indication that something has changed on the server/licensing side, especially since reinstallation did not work. I have not yet disconnected the computers from the internet to see if I can get minecraft up and running without any server connection - but right now it does not even start (I can not find minecraft or java in my TaskManager) so the launcher seems to give up before it really gets anywhere.
