Minecraft multiplayer

I have an Xbox account and so does my son. He plays on the Nintendo Switch. I have an Ipad and Microsoft Windows 10 version.

We use to connect but recently when we attempt to connect with him hosting (yes, he has marked Online on the Switch), and I try to join his world it will show me in his world and an icon on the map but all I see is a message....."locating server".......and
nothing happens.

We've tried shutting down the Switch (not just sleep mode) and restarting it. Also restarted my Ipad and since it happens from Windows 10 as well, the computer. We also reset the modem and router.

He can join my worlds with no problems. I cannot join his. I can join other public servers such as Mineplex.

So what's going on?

“Join Multiplayer Games” Settings
If you have your settings set to block joining multiplayer games, you can’t join any multiplayer games in Minecraft, including shared local worlds, Realms or servers. To enable multiplayer in Minecraft, make sure this setting is set to ‘Allow.’

However, just like ASCllnaut, that setting was already turned on for my children. In other words I'm in the same boat, we can play on the LAN but not on a realm.

Please can you tell me if your able to join his other worlds, if he is able to create one?

This will allow me to see if there is a problem connecting to the device or just that game. I am thinking it is to do with NAT settings, however because he sees you in his game, I am thinking otherwise.

He is able to make other worlds and is able to join any worlds I have or make in Minecraft. He can connect with me on my ipad or Windows 10.

He made a new world to see if I could join it and I am still not able to join. His world map will show me as having joined. On my end I get a perpetual “locating server.” His game has my name. When i disconnect because the locating server doent go away,
he gets a message that I have ledt the game.

thank you for trying to help us figure this out. Crossplay has so much potential and its nice to not have split screens when it worked.

It sounds like you're having trouble with your Nintendo Switch being able to join worlds on other devices. I recommend contacting
Mojang Support in regards to the issue to see if they have more information or relevant steps to get this resolved.
