    Minecraft Launcher - Update button not working


    I'm having troubles with the Minecraft Launcher at the moment. Whenever I try to open it so I can work on a map for Java Edition, I get this screen asking me to update the launcher. Clicking the download button starts a download, but it then quickly errors out, presumably because there's nothing to download according to the progress bar.

    The update button in the Microsoft Store doesn't work, either. And when I try to open Java Edition from the UWP in the start menu, I get this message.

    Clicking on this button leads me to the xbox.com page for the launcher, which in turn leads to the Xbox app. Clicking install there at least shows that it's trying to install an update, but gives me error code 0x80070005.

    Restarting the download via the launcher UWP, Microsoft Store, and the Xbox App doesn't work at all. No idea what's going on here.

    System info:

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
    GPU: PNY GeForce GT 710 (I tried getting a better GPU three times, failed.)
    Motherboard: GIGABYTE B450M DS3H WIFI
    RAM: TeamGroup Elite 16GB DDR4 3200 (x2)
    PSU: Thermaltake SMART BM2 650W

    Minecraft Launcher - Update button not working

    As of today (9/8/2023), the issue has re-appeared. This time, I cannot cancel the update as it is not listed in the Microsoft Store. I am now stuck with the Legacy launcher again. Can someone PLEASE help me?

    I managed to restart the download via the Microsoft Store after manually deleting the local cache, but now I get this error, "Something happened on our end." As far as I know, the Xbox app is the only one to display the update size, 10.1MB.

    It seems like cancelling the update worked, though I fear what may happen if it tries to update again.

    I'm unable to install Minecraft Launcher from Microsoft Store.

    Yes, it keeps loading then it gives same error.

    and in the Minecraft Launcher page in the Microsoft Store the install button does not work.

    Hi,

    An Update... I resolved the issue by going to the Windows Store and finding the Minecraft Launcher app and clicking Get instead of Play. After a small loading period, the Get button will disappear, and clicking Play magically starts working.

    Hope this helps.

    Go to the Microsoft store and search for the Minecraft launcher, where it has the option ‘Get‘ next to ‘Play’. Choosing ,get, will update the launcher and it should work….L Microsoft
