Minecraft Gamertag Error

I recently changed my Xbox gamer tag to a new one but it changed into a different one. Example, I typed "Steve" but my gamer tag turned into "Steve02." I didn't want to put any numbers but it still input it? I tried to change it back to "Steve" but it said I already own that gamer tag, how do I fix this?

The 02 was most likely added because the gamertag "Steve" was already taken by another player and you may have missed the notification under the text box. I'm not quite understanding what the issue is. Is the error occurring when changing your Gamertag? Or were you able to change the Gamertag and the issue lies when you try to login when Minecraft opens?

Please try to update your Gamertag from this site: https://social.xbox.com/changegamertag

Please explain with more detail what you are trying to do when you get the error and post the exact error here so we have an idea.

Your Minecraft name is integrated with your gamertag so what ever your gamertag is, that will be your Minecraft name and it is already fixed unless you make changes to your gamertag.

Concerning your GamerTag, each Microsoft account automatically has a GamerTag assigned to it unless the user is setting up the account on an Xbox console or on the Xbox PC app in which case the user would be asked if they want to change the GamerTag. You do have the option to change your GamerTag for free during the first time and you would be charged again if you wanted to change it later How to change your Xbox gamertag | Xbox Support . As far as your MineCraft account is concerned , can you send us a screenshot of the error you are receiving when you try to enter your GamerTag on the MineCraft launcher so that we may better assist you?

an error code appear with the error message? Which troubleshooting steps have you attempted thus far?

If this is your first time logging in to Minecraft for PlayStation 4, we recommend logging in to
the Xbox website with your Microsoft account before logging in to Minecraft. This is to make sure that the Microsoft account has an Xbox profile set up on it. Your account will be automatically
assigned a gamertag. You can choose to change your Xbox gamertag for free as long as it has never been changed before. Be sure
to let us know the results!
