Minecraft @ E3

There was nearly 3 hours of live footage from Xbox channel on Twitch yesterday. You can still view it.

Looks fab! The maps are MASSIVE!!! Can't wait to pick this up!

Awesome XD. Didn't have time to watch much of it cuz been busy playing with some friends on Minecraft and COD BO2. Just thought I'd check b4 going to sleep.

 

Too bad I don't have the patience to watch an almost 3 hour video. But what I've seen, it has bigger drawing distances than the Xbox 360 version, and when your flying around in Creative Mode, it's not like your being held back by waiting for the game to
finish drawing where you're flying around in such a hurry. I like how the Xbox 360 version uses the Dashboard interface for many things when in the game, like writing signs, the way it warns you that achievements will be disabled if you load a world a certain
way, if you want to exit with or without saving, etc.

Achievements should be kind of the same-ish as the 360 version but they might roll out new ones.



Thanks Zombie for the link. I won't watch the entire video cuz it's too long. Similar videos have popped on Youtube which are not as long and that I do watch. It also appears that the game loads faster too. Yay minecraft ;D

 

The "non-standard" things I saw in the video revolved around map handling.

Maps in PC Minecraft are awful. They activate only when you first use them, they have to be zoomed out to get more on a piece of paper and that's only done with extra maps, etc.

Maps in 360 Minecraft originally were just one sheet of paper since the world fits in the one sheet of paper bounds. In Xbox One Minecraft, the sheet of paper appears to be 1000x1000. While you have to start a new sheet when you go past that, your relative
location to an existing map is shown if you're "out of bounds". I don't recall if the PC version shows the direction you have to travel to get back "in bounds" when you're off the grid.

The PC version doesn't really need a map since there's a button you can hit to see your coordinates at any time. The console version doesn't have that so it's kinda necessary to keep maps around.

Oh, and loading faster? Heh. Repeatedly, the demo guy was waiting and waiting for a Large world to be generated. Not clear if the loading afterward is faster, but it looks like it takes a minute or two to start a Large world at the outset. Not a big deal,
it was just funny watching him wait time and time and time again.
