Minecraft Bedrock Multiplayer Issues

For the past year or so, whenever I try to join a friend's Minecraft world it will say "connecting to multiplayer game". After a few seconds it will say "unable to connect to world". This happens on every device I have and only happens when I join friends and not the reverse. How do I fix this?

Thanks for responding, my main platform is PC, but I occasionally play on my Nintendo switch and iphone. I use the same account for all of them. My account is set up as an adult. I checked my privacy settings and nothing is wrong with it.
