Minecraft Bedrock free after Java migration?

Unfortunately, the deadline for migrating your Minecraft account to a Microsoft account with entitlement to Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition has passed. The migration process was open until May 10, 2023, and accounts that were not migrated by then are no longer eligible for the free Java Edition entitlement.

If you purchased Minecraft before the migration deadline, you will still be able to play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. However, you will no longer be able to claim a free copy of Minecraft: Java Edition.

If you are still interested in playing Minecraft: Java Edition, you will need to purchase it separately from the Microsoft Store.

Man I'm super bummed out, is there really no way to redeem your free copy of Minecraft for Windows anymore? Why isn't it an ongoing thing that veteran players automatically get a free copy of Minecraft for Windows?

you will be able to access both with that account but you still need to purchase the base game for each platform you want to play it on, skins and texture packs and the likes travel with you.

As per checking, you will not be able to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition for free but if you already have the game you will use just the same Microsoft account for Bedrock Edition as well as for Minecraft Java Edition. It will just be easier since you're now using just one account.

Just confirmed that this is true with another account rep from Microsoft; you had to complete this promotion before a specific time in order to play Bedrock Edition without buying the game twice.

Unfortunately I'm still incredibly upset that I missed the opportunity to get Bedrock edition for free back in April 2020 because I was an essential worker at the time and I was not able to complete the process before it was too late.

I'm just going to wait until the Mojang servers are deactivated and then I'll honestly never play any version Minecraft again because it evokes negative feelings of being neglected by Microsoft. Next time you think big tech workers care about you, remember: they don't.
