Minecraft Bedrock Cross-Platform

Hi, I am wanting to play Minecraft with my partner. I have bedrock edition on my Surface, and he has an XBox One. Would he need a Gold subscription to be able to join me in my world? Thanks!

So we would be on the same LAN, bit he would be on the XBox One, and Id be on my Surface (Windows 10). Sounds like we could play locally without XBox Live Gold, which is all we're wanting to do.

As long as you are on the same network, you two can play on LAN without Gold. Hope this helps

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand you are inquiring about the conditions of being able to play across platforms.

There have been reports of individuals reporting that they are able to play Minecraft on two Xbox One consoles while simply being connected to the same network. You would actually be able to see any LAN Worlds if one of your Friends was online on a world
on the same network as you.

If you are attempting to play with others not on the same network, then on the Xbox One, you would need an

Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to be able to join their games.

Keep in mind that
Realms are also another options, if this is something that best fits your needs.

You need to be signed into a Microsoft account as well for this work. Additionally you would need to make sure your

privacy and online safety are configured correctly.

Please ensure cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and PS4 players, all players involved need to be using the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft and have Microsoft accounts. If your friends on PS4 are still using the PlayStation 4 Edition, they won't be able to join you, and you won't be able to join them. Unfortunately, there is no direct fix for this, as the cross-platform play limitations are determined by the game's edition and the platform.

As of September 2021, Sony had relaxed its stance on cross-platform play, so it's possible that Minecraft's Bedrock Edition might have become available for PS4 by now. If this is the case, make sure your friends on PS4 have updated to the Bedrock Edition, and they should be able to join your game using their Microsoft accounts.
