    We have Nintendo Switch with Minecraft. We are just trying out online play, so I have a 30 day free trial and my son has a 7 day free trial for Nintendo Online. Both Nintendo Online accounts are individual only - not family.

    My son and I each have our own profile on the Switch.

    We have a Realms world that we've been playing on a computer and an iPad.

    On the Switch, I can start Minecraft from my Switch profile and log onto my Microsoft account and play by myself on our Realms world using my Microsoft character.

    On the Switch, my son can also start Minecraft from his profile and log onto his Microsoft account and play by himself on our Realms world using his Microsoft character.

    Problem:

    If I start Minecraft from my Switch profile and enter our Realms world, then I am using my Microsoft character but and when my son joins as player 2, he is not joining as his Microsoft character. He can join, but he's the generic character. We have the inverse problem if he starts Minecraft from his Switch profile. In that case, only he can use his Microsoft character and I, joining as player 2, am only the generic character.

    Sitting side by side using the same Nintendo Switch, how can each of us join the the same Realms world and play with our own Microsoft character? Is it possible?

    Have you an active Nintendo Switch Online Subscription? I ask this because I found the following Q/A on Minecraft Nintendo Switch FAQ:

    Can I play Realms on this edition?

    Yes, Realms is available on the Bedrock edition of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch. To play online on a Nintendo Switch, you need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, so this is a requirement for playing on Realms. More information about Nintendo Switch Online can be found here.

    Furthermore, can you post the entire error message (better a screenshot/photo)?

    Are you referring to the FAQ found on Xbox Support, "Minecraft for Nintendo Switch FAQ"? Specifically
    this quote,

    "Where are Servers and Realms?

    Realms is now available on Nintendo Switch by applying the latest game update. Servers will be enabled soon in a future update, stay tuned to our News Channel and other social media platforms to see the newest and latest features."

    If so, I believe you are referring to Realms on the Switch which requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription purchased through Nintendo. You will also need to purchase a Realms subscription from Mojang to even get started. Open Minecraft and choose to
    create a new Realm to see pricing for the Switch.
