Migrating Mojang to Microsoft Account, not launching

Same thing happened to me. Only the Demo.

do i need lawyer to get old game on new pc with saved games. this migration is a scam, for autistic kid to play minecraft that we purchased many years ago. how many times are you going to keep trying to charge us? he just wants to play his game..,.....

UPDATE [Solution and how to merge article]

Solution 1-Hit the "Go back" button at the sign in after you have merged

Solution 2-Wrong Microsoft Account linked to the particular MC account you are trying to log into, or Wrong Microsoft account linked to the particular MC account you are trying to log into due, to a change of the Microsoft Gamer Tag making it still tied to the previous Microsoft Gamer Tag.

I called Microsoft by googling "Xbox Support", and scrolling down to the bottom under "Customer Support", and "Contact us" page, and they resolved my issue. I have 2 accounts, and one problem was resolved with Solution 1, while the other was resolved with Solution 2. With Solution 2 they simply just told me to use my previous Microsoft Gamer Tag and it would work, despite having gone through and changing it. If anyone further continues to have problems they have a wonderful support team and were able to solve my problem by trouble shooting in a matter of minutes. Sometimes there are problems on their end, while other time's it has to do with Mojang and an error occurs during the merge. I emailed Mojang, and they looked into my account and said it was a Microsoft problem, which it was and was resolved.

Steps to Merge MC with Microsoft:

1) -Log into your Minecraft Launcher, click on the option to "Merge an account" a notice appears saying "Get started", click this. (Note-If you do not see a merge account/get started message, you are not able to merge yet).

2) A Mojang site with "Its time to move" appears with a green button, "Move my account" click this. (Note- below are just the details of your account like your email address that your Minecraft username is assigned to via Mojang.)

3) Click "Get Code" Mojang then sends a code to the email address that was assigned to your account. Log into your email to get the code needed for the next step and copy the code. (This can take quite a while in some instances to get a code as it took me 15m)

4) Enter the code on the web page that says "Enter your code", paste in the slot, then click "Submit and start migration" button.

-Follow the prompts to make a Microsoft account, or use one that you have made already. Click on "Pick the account or make a new one". Then click "Let's make the move" and click "Complete Move"

5) A screen will eventually appear that says "Move Complete" with a "Got it" button, and shows the username/email associated with the Microsoft Gamer tag you will use to login to Minecraft launcher with from now on.

6) Open Microsoft launcher like you would normally, click the "Go back" and login with your "Microsoft account", delete your old Mojang account (red icon), then you will see the Microsoft Gamer Tag [active] you can now "Play" on this merged account. To get to the launcher home screen, you can click "Minecraft Java Edition" (the version I use) and the play button will show.

Side Note:

-You can repeat the steps above for each of your Minecraft accounts that need to be merged.

-You can only change your Microsoft Gamer Tag two times free without paying so pick a good one. If you see a #(number) beside the username you want, it is not an original. If there is no # beside the username you want, it is an original and no numbers will show on games.

-If you change your Microsoft Gamer Tag, write it down bc your MC account may still be linked to it and not your new tag, this helps Microsoft if they call you.

If you have Multiple Accounts, merged, or not merged:

(this is what I did and used the steps I took to create this article with, as I already merged a previous account and created a Microsoft account for my other MC account to be merged with)

-In the Microsoft Launcher you can click the Arrow at the top left of the launcher, then "View all accounts" It shows you which Microsoft Gamer Tag is merged with each username/ Minecraft account, as well as a "Mojang" section and under that which lists the email address and Minecraft username associated with each of those account registered to Mojang. (Once you have merged an account correctly, the Mojang portion of this page will not be needed as you won't use it to log into and play Minecraft with.)

Side Note:

You will need a new Microsoft account for each Minecraft account. Continuing on this page in the launcher, under the "Microsoft" section (that lists the accounts) you will see an option that says "Add Microsoft Account", you can click this if you already have created a new Microsoft Account that you want to merge another Minecraft account to. It will take you to a Microsoft page where you login, and you can continue to follow the prompts until completed.

I did the same but it says that i do not own minecraft and i have to purchase it again.

You can click <Go back thing and then login using the microsoft login not mojang

U need to go back and log in using the microsoft account (email)
