    Mics not working.


    So a few days ago I was able to chat just fine. I have the CoD controller with the 3.5mm jack. For my headsets I use the Astro a40's (no mixamp) and some sony headphones with an in-line mic. I was able to talk two days ago using both of these, but today
    I cannot get any form of voice chat to work. In game voice doesnt work, party chat doesnt work, it wont even pic up sound for voice messages. What is going on?

    Can connect to party chat but everyone's mic is not working....

    So we connect to party chat fine.. but all the mics are not working.. party text is also not working.

    Tested mics with voice messages and they all working...

    Very odd issue as connecting to party is working just fine.

    Headset mics not working

    Since you say the headset works on the laptop, can you check the following:

    After making sure the microphone really works, plug it into the controller, and open up the messaging tab on the console.

    Create a new message (since you don't actually send it, it doesn't matter to whom you write). Instead of writing the message, press the microphone button, and talk into the microphone.

    Does the console pick up the microphone, and are you able to listen to the preview of your message?

    If the microphone did not work, try a different controller, if possible.

    Also, headsets with a 3.5 mm jack with those 3 rings on the plug have two standards, called OMTP and CTIA, where the microphone and ground contacts are reversed.

    If the headset uses the OMTP standard, the controller is "listening" on the ground pin, and therefore the microphone won't work.

    You can get a cheap OMTP to CTIA (or vice versa) adapter, that simply crosses these connectors.

    Since only two connectors are exchanged, those adapter cables are usually dirt cheap, and you can get them online or in most phone stores. If you have to pay more than the price for a coffee to go for that cable, you're being ripped off.

    EDIT: So I unplugged my headset and turn my kinect voice chat on, and I CAN talk through the kinect, but your update still busted my microphones. Thanks Microsoft, for turning $280 worth of headsets into paperweights.

    support.xbox.com/.../wired-headset-help     might help.

    If it doesn't, you may have to contact Support to request a repair as suggested in the link if you're so inclined.

    Just entertain, for the moment, there is a firmware issue. I am seeing more and more people complaining that chat, thru their headset, is not working. I can make it work thru the Kinect, but not the headset. I have tried the headset on other devices that
    utilize 3.5 jacks, they work. But ONLY Xbox do they not work. I have tried multiple headsets with the same results. I am using an adapter. My son has a controller that does not need an adapter, he also sees the same issue.

    Too many coincidences to believe everyone's headset/adapters all stopped working at the same time.

    And yes, I have done the troubleshooting. Inclusive of an Xbox One restart. Updates are all done.

    Any assistance appreciated.

    Again, my headsets work on other devices.

    Me and 4 friends have the same issue, we bought the new controller with the 3.5 because the xbox one head set doesnt work out of nowhere, we try everything and it is definitely a xbox bug problem.

    Sorry to hear that the solutions didn't work!

    Please make sure that both the controller and Xbox One console are up-to-date. Who is the manufacturer and which models are the headsets? Do you remember when you purchased your headsets? If you've recently purchased them within the last 30 days, you may
    be able to exchange them with the retailer.
