So where I work there's about 5 guys who have went kwazy over
POKEMON GO. In the game, there are microtransactions, as so many games have now. Anyways, one of the idiots has spent $300 on the in game store and I just think that's insane.

I've seen lots of hate for microtransactions on these forums but was kinda curious...

Have you ever bought a microtransaction in a game? What's your thoughts on them? Has anyone else known someone who spent a kwazy amount of money on them?

I'm sure I've had to of bought some at sometime but I don't think I've ever spent more than $10. I'm not even sure if I have, but I'll just say I have to cover my bases. lol

    :)

  2. kid racks up £4000 bill on fifa, this is the problem with microtransactions

It's *a* problem with microtransactions, I wouldn't say it is *the* problem with microtransactions.

  3. More Titanfall news!!!!

My opinion on microtransactions in Titanfall is that there will be no microtransactions. The developer has stated very clearly that there will not be microtransactions and I have no reason not to believe these statements.

Just season passes for COD though never again after Blops 3. I'm really just ignore these thing most of the time and don't know of anyone that actually buys them, the same can be said with dlc.

Pokemon go will be the new candy crush saga, I've already deleted it.

I do not use micro-transactions. I have purchased Season Passes on occasions and completed DLC that really is DLC in the past and still will in the future. Buying something that is otherwise in the Game imo waste of money.

I have with an exception spent over $1300 in Onigiri micro-transactions but and a huge BUT, I earned all the In-Game purchase via selling to other Players (Oni's) with the In-Game Bazaar System. Sell off top end items and buy your own new stuff. I sold two
swords each for $75 and I've seen one sell for $200. It's a lot of grind but the other "shorter" option is to fork out real cash. I'll choose grind over money any day.

  6. Doesn't bother me really if people want to buy stuff then that's fair, my friend traded in his ps4 for coins on never winter which I find ridiculous but he really enjoyed the game, I've spent money on packs on FIFA ultimate team as I enjoy that, as for Pokemon
I brought some poke balls but that's about it, as long as people enjoy games and they are happy to spend the money then fair enough

Any microtransaction that gives someone an advantage or "pay to win" is a big no no but if it's just for cosmetic stuff then it's up to the individual I suppose.

Most I've spent was about £15 in Neverwinter but considering it was a free game & I played it for well over 200 hours I think I got my monies worth.Only bought a Honey Badger companion & some cosmetic stuff with the change.

    Microtransactions - The Discussion!

There is a distinction between "Microtransactions" and "DLC".

"Microtransactions" have no place on a Gaming System that costs hundreds to purchase in the first place.

They exist for the lazy, idle and stupid and you've got to be a special kind of lazy, idle or stupid to start forking out money for these in the first place.

Locking in game content behind a paywall is greedy too. I don't mind Publishers making profits but I do mind greedy, lazy, idle and stupid.

Lost Kauz has put forward an interesting 3rd type and that is an actual "In Game Economy" like you find in MMO's. Don't mind this at all. It's nice to be able to craft stuff and then profit from your work.

I agree with the pay to win is a no no view, cosmetic stuff I don't really care about its up to the purchaser to make that choice. Blue and Digital made a good point in another thread about MT's that only give you a chance to score some loot via the RNG
system in games like Mass Effect 3 and Halo 5 and I don't play enough MP for that to be an issue for me, but I guess if someone wants to throw enough money on chance they could end up with better kit and gain an advantage, now in ME3 it wasn't PVP so no issue,
but not fair otherwise... on the whole I don't really care as it really doesn't affect me as a gamer.

    Doesn't matter to me.

In all games that i played with microtransactions feature,i never had to buy anything because i was able to get what i want by simply play.

And never made me a better or worst gamer.

I think they are fine, it allows people to spend 300 bucks on the game thus subsidizing those of us that play for free. It also seems to be used largely by children really, who want that "cool skin" etc. Most of us older gamers, just want to play the game,
we don't really care about impressing our friends with the latest skin.

    Unfortunately it does.

When people support these games they support the practice.

When companies realise they can get away with charging people twice for a game then they will.

There are good ways to do this. "Evolve"'s Microtransactions were all 100% cosmetic, whereas the DLC actually added new hunter characters and monsters.

Then there are bad ways to do it like "HALO 5" with the REQ Packs or the upcoming "Gears Of War 4" where if you want the complete experience you'll be asked to purchase their version of REQ Packs.

When people support these models, whether they do out of laziness, idleness, stupidity, ignorance or even innocence because they never knew any better... they knife other gamers in the back.

as long as it's not a pay-to-win model then i don't care, i've dropped $20 on Pokemon Go (Google survey credit actually), and i've dropped a couple of hundred dollars on Pokemon Go's bigger and more mature brother Ingress, but only because i've easily spent
over a thousand hours in that game over the past 3 years and i believe in supporting something that i've spent that much time on.

if it pay-to-win, then i just won't play it.

  14. If a game wants to charge $60 upfront then it doesn't get to do Microtransactions, even if they are cosmetic only. If they want to give us the base game for free and recoup their money through Microtransactions then I don't really care.

These triple A games companies are seeing the amount of money that Clash of Clans and the like pull in and they want part of that. They are looking at the same psychological tricks those games use and putting them in games that cost us $60, more with the
    inevitable season pass.

You really think you are immune to these tricks. I wonder how many on here have played Avatar the Last Airbender, or any other kids games, because it was a easy 1000 gamerscore. Microsoft has used the same tricks free to play games have done in order to
get people to ascribe value to meaningless digital items.

Microtransactions do not belong in $60 retail titles, even if they are just a skin for your gun.

I haven't bought them. If the game is free than sure, but if we paid 60 or so then no regardless of what they are. It's a scummy thing to do.
