Microsoft Xbox Series X's AMD Architecture Deep Dive at Hot Chips 2020

I love deep dives like this In terms of specs, this is the first time a generation of consoles has matched PC performence whilst still being relatively cost effective/affordable (i assume as no pricing has been announced). I am more interested in seeing
what developers create more than anything as they have been held back by the current generation of consoles.

What I find fascinating though is how there is talk of 4k@120hz and 8k@60hz on the Series X. A £1200 RTX2080ti can struggle to maintain 4k@60hz on some games, so I am a little sceptical there and until I see a Digital Foundry video on this matter, I will
take that with a pinch of salt. I guess only time will tell.

Same here. As someone that chooses to primarily game on consoles, I think we should eventially be in for a treat once developers get some time with these next-gen systems. Not only do they have access to stronger GPU, CPU and more RAM, but also SSD, which
to my understanding, will lead to more immersive games. Overall, less loading and more time actually playing games.

I'm trying to find a video of the actual presentation, but for right now all I can find is Youtubers commenting about the info.

I was seriously underwhelmed with the Xbox One base console when it launched in late 2013. And from a tech perspective it was was and still is pretty weak. I did however have the fortune of obtaining one for free.

Not sure how it happened or indeed why it happened. My original free Xbox One - which my nephew now owns - was free from Microsoft themselves. An (at the time) £450 console. It wasn't a competition or anything. MS sent me a code to redeem a free console
from the UK Microsoft store, I didn't even have to pay for shipping. Plus, they sent me a free download code for Forza Horizon 2.

Still didn't feel quite the same as the Xbox 360 generation before it. Now I've jumped back to PC gaming again having built a 8th Gen i7 machine which now has an RTX 2080 graphics card.

Technically, I'm already in the 'next gen'. I doubt I'll getting a console on day one. But being the techy nerd I am, the specs and stuff is still fascinating.

Looking forward to Digital Foundry verdict on these new machines.

looks good but im not gonna get burned again, the one x was supposed to be a beast and it was mediocre at best, this will be outdated within a few months of release so i think i will definately skip the new consoles going forward.

Plus we still don't know what the exact price of this is going to be.

i still have my day one xbox one with the stamped 2013 controller all in working order with kinect, now sat in the cupboard unused, when i got that i got it with forza 5 and sat there for the first day doing absolutely nothing lol until it installed, then
got powerstar golf and peggle 2 and played them to death, man im getting old.
