Microsoft wants me to replace my console

Hi,

I bought a used xbox still under warranty. The former owner received an email supposedly from Microsoft telling him he had to exchange his Xbox against a new model (send by Microsoft) because it has a vulnerability. So he wants to come and do the exchange
once he has received it.

Is it a common practice ?

It sounds like a phishing scam. Uour friend should not click on any links contained in this email.

A used item doesnt have warranty unfortunately, its becomes void once it becomes 2nd hand, however brief the first owner was. Having worked in a warranty department (not microsoft) we would never contact anyone to discuss a replacement unless they had contacted
us first for a repair. It is only be when the repair has failed to fix the issue and the issue being a manufacturing fault, that a replacement is offered and this is all assuming it still has value left.

This certainly sounds like a scam and others have advised you correctly though i will echo that emails are easy to forge and would hate to see you become a victim.

I thought the same thing..

The owner send me a message as he had accepted the exchange (without even asking me before) and he has to make the exchange under penalty of being taken from the price of the console.

So you think it's a fake/trap ?
