Microsoft to release Xbox One without Kinect

To answer your question Lofty if a cheaper Kinectless box was available at launch would I have bought one instead of the Kinect version? Yes. But having not had the choice I don't regret having one and wouldn't want a One now without one. Whilst I
have enjoyed some of the Kinect gaming functions I have enjoyed it more as an integral part of controlling the console,whether that be voice commands, instant sign in, QR scanner, all things that in my opinion make the console what it is.

Is Kinect mandatory

Microsoft said they have no plans of releasing the Xbox One without the Kinect, but I think Microsoft will release the Xbox One without the Kinect to try and match PS4's price tag. I used to
be anti-Kinect myself because of the Kinect 1, but I got to try out the Kinect 2 at a friends and I love it. Navigating the UI is made easier with voice commands and I cannot play BF4 without the Kinect - voice commands, head tracker and the leaning feature.

 

If they overhaul it and take it backwards from the Kinect functionality it has now I will be seriously upset and will reconsider my brand loyalty. Never owned a PS but there is always a first time for everything.

 

^ I think its more a case of adding certain controller based shortcuts to what there is now, as opposed to removing Kinect-based features - at least I hope..

 

I have only just discussed the fitness application. I think my Kinect will get a few more hours out of me. However, I do believe that they should have just gave up on Kinect a long time ago and not even bothered with it for the Xbox One.

The Xbox One interface will not be easy to use without Kinect, that's the way it has been designed. Thankfully Microsoft know this and according to executive Yusuf Mehdi are planning to overhaul it

Microsoft announced yesterday that it will release a new Kinect-Less SKU for Xbox One and therefore it'll be looking to change the way the interface works with this in mind.

“We do want to find ways to give you some of those shortcuts and make some of the things that we have with Kinect easier with the controller,” Mehdi said.

“You can expect to see us do a bunch of things over the coming months to make the experience easier and easier, even if you don’t have a Kinect.”

Mehdi said Microsoft is “still kind of working through that”, so we aren't likely to see anything too soon.

That's really good news, now a nice price war and some more games might see me sitting with both a XB1 and a PS4 for the price of a XB1 at launch, come this Xmas.

It did indeed pay to keep me money in me wallet this time round.

Hopefully by Christmas the price will drop even further. At the moment the RRP of a standalone XB1 just doesn't make sense, unless retailers will bundle it with a game or two.

RRP is basically £350, last week my local Sainsbury's had a deal of an XB1 + Kinect and the choice of either, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3 or Forza 5 for £350 lol

Plus when you take into account tax, exchange rate, and a free daily pork pie for every MS employee, that $399 should translate in £389.99 for us UK/EU gamers. lol

 

Delighted by this news, not at £350 though. Once the Kinectless console falls below £300, I'll be right on it!

 

remember the rrp is £350 the current rrp is £399 with kinect so expect to see bundles around £300

 

£300 for console + game then I'd say excellent price because if you shop about now you can get console + Kinect + Game for around £370-£390.
