Microsoft Surface 2 cannot connect to 360 using Smartglass

I've read a bunch of posts about problems with connecting to smartglass and am hoping someone can help me. I have a Surface 2 and a 360. Both are on the same network, the 360 has smartglass and play to set to on. They are both using the same login. My Surface
can see the 360 listed under devices on my network but when I try to connect thru the app, it says it can't find the console. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I am using the 360 app, not the One app. I spent 1 1/2 hrs on the phone last night with both
Xbox support and Surface support and they couldn't figure it out. Basically, xbox just checked to make sure the console was set up and the login was correct, sent me to surface who checked that the app was correct and sent me back to xbox.

When I go to xbox games on the surface, my gamertag and avatar show up so I know they both have the same info. I'm going to try tonight to see if my iphone can connect and see if that isolates the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Since the Xbox
shows up on the Surface under devices, I would think that means it is not my network but I'm not sure. And I asked support if you had to have a gold membership but the person who helped me didn't know. Could that be the issue?

    :)

    Smartglass streaming / remote play.

Well my Surface connects to my Xbox via Smartglass, and I've been able to use a 360 pad with my Surface for a long time. The ingredients are there. I hope Microsoft bring remote play as it is a great feature.

Microsoft Surface 2 cannot connect to 360 using Smartglass

Updated info, I am using the Netgear WNDR3700 and there was an update for it that I just installed. I rebooted the router. I was able to connect Smartglass using my iPhone 5 but my Surface still cannot connect and my Windows 8 pc can't either.

I'm having the exact same issues. The Xbox 360 Smartglass app worked great for streaming music and videos from my Laptop PC running Windows 8.0 to our Xbox 360, but since having upgraded to Windows 8.1 I can't get it to work correctly at all, even after
uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Oddly enough I can connect to the console just fine through the Xbox 360 Smartglass app on my Windows Phone. Problem is I can't stream anything from my phone to it once I've made a connection, but perhaps that could be
because I have nothing native on it and everything I do have in the way of music and videos is in the cloud? I don't know, but methinks it's an app issue for the PC and that Microsoft is just letting it go as an unofficial way of telling 360 console owners
they are no longer supporting the platform and to upgrade to the Xbox One if you want a Smartglass app that works.

Smartglass is also not working for me in Windows 8.1. I am using a Lenovo Yoga. I am able to connect to the 360 from my Windows phone Smartglass app, but I am not able to connect with the Windows 8.1 app. I am NOT trying to connect to the 360 with both apps
at the same time. I close the windows phone app before attempt to connect with Windows 8 Smartglass app.

At first I thought the issue may have been a public connection. At some point my home connection was set to "public," but I removed the connection from the command line using "netsh wlan delete profile='my wifi'" and reconnected making it a private connection.

The computer sees the xbox as a "play device" as well under settings>PC settings>PC and devices>devices, so the computer is able to communicate with the Xbox. This leads me to believe the issue is some kind of bug.

I have the same issue. Smartglass used to work well. But I didn't use it much. But since Fable anniversary edition has decent support I wanted to give it a go on. Imagine my surprise when I suddenly couldn't connect any more. I tried resetting my router,
but no improvement. As described above I can see my xbox 360 on the network, and I can connect using my mobile phone. But my laptop and my Surface RT both can't connect.

I don't know what happened but suddenly my Surface connected tonight. I was playing a game and didn't even press the "connect to Xbox" at the top. It connected on its own, maybe there was an update for windows that fixed it.

Me too, I used to be able to use smartglass from my surface rt, but it stopped working all of sudden recently. The smartglass on my cell phone works just fine.

I was having the same problem but then, On my Surface pro 2, I found a setting in my homegroup settings (pc settingings/network/homgroup) that says “allow devices on this network stream music and video”. I turned this setting on and SmartGlass started working.
