Microsoft Sudoku has issues with ads

    Microsoft Sudoku has issues with ads


    Everytime I am playing or even start playing Microsoft Sudoku, the ad system jumps on. But the big problem with that is that it stays stuck on that screen. I can't click on anything that can switch it back to game mode. So while the game is still running
    in the background, I can't select or interact with anything on it.

    Ads blocking screen unable to play sudoku

    Since the Win10 Creators update Sudoku screen consists of a black square with rolling ads. I cannot remove these ads or get past this page. Uninstall and reinstall of Sudoku has resulted in the same problem.

    Microsoft and Sudoku hang

    I find that Microsoft Jigsaw and Sudoku hang while ads are loading. The ads are slow to load meaning the games spend most of their time not running (although, the clock in Sudoku keeps running). They are both unplayable!

    Freeze up Jigsaw

    Same problem as Microsoft Sudoku is having. Game locks up while ads are loading.

    Step one of troubleshooting was reboot computer.

    Step two was reset the game.

    Step three was to uninstall and reinstall the game.

    Step four was to perform a clean boot.

    At this point, I still had the problem. This problem appears in Sudoku and Jigsaw. It does not appear in Solitaire or Mahjong.

    I now tried to play another game that required me to use sound. I powered up my wireless headphones and found that they were not working. I ended up moving the wireless dongle to a new USB port to force a reinstall of its drivers and my headphones are
    now working. As it turns out, this fixed my Sudoku problem as well.

    I would have expected a driver issue to affect all games the same...

    Problem solved.

    Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that Microsoft Sudoku is not allowing you to play a game or daily challenge because it is taking you back to the selection screen after you close an advertisement. Are you still experiencing the
    application not loading all the way? We recommend performing a
    clean boot     on the computer. This will make sure that there are very few applications that could be conflicting with the game. We noticed that you mentioned there were no windows updates waiting/needing to be installed. Did you discover this by

    manually checking for updates    ? Be sure to let us know the results!

    Ok, I tried to perform a clean boot and I got the problem to change. Sudoku would now crash as it starts (the Sudoku window will appear and then disappear). I tried to reset and then to uninstall/reinstall Sudoku and now I am back to it loading but when
    I try to play any game, I get the end screen of the ad and when I close the ad, I go back to the selection screen. Is there a log file somewhere that will tell me what is going on?

    I am manually checking for updates and windows has no updates available/pending. I have exited the clean boot (after Sudoku was crashing) and I am ready to try the next troubleshooting step.
