Microsoft Solitaire or Mahjong on Windows 10

Whenever we play Microsoft Solitaire or Mahjong we get commercials which continuously freeze up, very annoying! This is Windows 10 on a small laptop/tablet convertible by Toshiba, there is no Ethernet connection due to it's size I imagine, wireless only!
It is only 2 months old, can somebody advise please.

Is anyone else having problems with xbox Microsoft games (Solitaire, Mahjong, Jigsaw) loading in Windows 10?

Sounds very much like an internet connection issue. Usually, adverts freezing like that indicates slow internet, or an issue with the internet speed/connection. Have you run any tests on your connection?

Thank you for your reply, I wouldn't think it was an internet connection issue as I am averaging 50mbps plus.

Ok, that's a good speed. Have you tried any ping or trace route tests? It may be a connection setting that's causing the problem, or it could even be something going-on inside the apps, but at the moment, this is just a process of elimination ;-).

Of course .

Firstly, the ping test:

Open a Command Prompt - Right-click Start Button, and choose Command Prompt. In the box which appears, type the following (the Bing website is just an example, you can use a different site if you prefer) -

ping www.bing.com

Press Enter. You will see some numbers appearing, but the only information you really need to check is your "Ping Statistics" and "Approximate round-trip times in milliseconds" - Make a note of these, and let me know what they are please .

Trace Route test:

Open a Command Prompt again (or use the one you have open, if you still do). Type the following -

tracert www.bing.com

Press Enter. The information here you only need to worry about if the ping times are high, below 30ms is ok, above 100ms isn't ;-).

It does tell me one thing... It's unlikely to be your internet with numbers like those, which is a good thing, so now we need to look at other things for the cause.

Firstly, let's have a look at some app troubleshooting, if you don't mind:

windows.microsoft.com/.../run-the-troubleshooter-for-windows-apps

Click "Run Troubleshooter" on that page, then "Open" or "Run" when prompted by your browser.

When it runs, you will see a standard troubleshooter window.

Click "Advanced" and ensure "Apply repairs automatically" is selected, then click "Next".

Allow it to do its thing (shouldn't take long), then you should see if you have any errors/problems with your apps.

Let me know how you get on with that, and we'll see if we have to look at other things for a fix .

Hmm...

There is another option to try, but really not sure if it will work... Uninstalling and reinstalling ONE of the apps (to test it). If you haven't already tried that, it may be worth giving it a go ;-).

No guarantees here though, it may be the same after reinstalling.

I am suspecting it could be the ad servers, but really not sure. The only other thing I can think of, is your laptop hardware, but considering you said it's only 2 months old, that is extremely unlikely to be honest.

I'll keep having a think about it, and do some research, but IF you want to try uninstall/reinstall in the meantime, I'll leave that decision in your hands ;-).

Thanks DJ, I appreciate all your help, I'll keep working at it. Its funny that my wife told me that she's played these games on an older Microsoft Surface RT without any problems! So even tho' the laptop is new it could be a hardware issue (cheap Chinese
parts lol). Just something to think about! Thanks once again!

- This is a search on MS Community, there may be something of relevance, but there is a LOT to look through.

We could look at the hardware specs if you want... Entirely up to you .
