Microsoft Solitaire Collection iOS App Crashes Upon Sign In Attempt

The Microsoft Solitaire Collection iOS App crashes to the springboard immediately after tapping Sign In.

No login prompt is displayed - it immediately bounces back to the home screen.

Signing out of the associated Live account (from all apps on the device) via the Microsoft Authenticator app will then allow the login page to appear in the Solitaire app after tapping Sign In, but after entering the email address and then the password,
it crashes again. Subsequent attempts to sign in to the Solitaire app yield the same behavior - crashing without any additional dialog.

The Live account is used without issue in many apps on the same device - Outlook, OneDrive, Xbox, SmartGlass, etc.

This issue has persisted since the release of iOS 10.3 and continued through 10.3.1 and the latest beta of 10.3.2 as well as on the Microsoft Solitaire Collection app versions 1.6 and 1.6.1

The affected device is an iPhone 7 Plus with the latest system software and app updates. The Solitaire app works without issue on another device, a fully updated iPad Mini 2 which uses the same Live account.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the app yields no change in behavior. Signing out of the Authenticator app, rebooting, uninstalling the Solitaire app, rebooting, reinstalling the app, then trying to sign in to Solitaire again results in the same crash.

All troubleshooting attempts have failed thus far. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    :)

  2. Cannot sign in iOS

I've been playing Microsoft Solitaire Collection on my laptop for over a year and got excited when I discovered it was available on iOS. I downloaded it on my phone, got the premium subscription, and was delighted. But now when I go to sign in on the app
it crashes. My app is up to date. My iOS is up to date. And I even did a factory reset on my iPhone 6. Help!

    Hey Wynn!

Thanks for the detailed post with all the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. That helps us out. It looks like the only think you haven't tried thus far is factory resetting your iPhone. I know that's not an optimal solution but it's going to be the
    next troubleshooting step to try.

If you're willing to do that, give it a shot and let us know if that helps any. Microsoft Solitaire Collection iOS App Crashes Upon Sign In Attempt :)

Thanks for the response, but I'm afraid I can't commit to a full reset at this time. With a near full 256GB device, it's a bit further than I'd like to go to troubleshoot issues with a single app. I'll keep my fingers crossed that a future update clears
    things up.

For what it's worth, the login issue persists as described even after today's public release of iOS 10.3.2.

That's definitely understandable. Out of curiosity - do you have any friends/family members with an iPhone near you? If so, are you able to sign into their phone using your account to play? My gut says it's a bad caching issue with your account and your
device combined and that a full device reset would help that but I can respect not wanting to go through that for Solitaire.

Definitely appreciate the update and the extra info. If you end up going through it at some point, do update us and let us know if that helped at all. Microsoft Solitaire Collection iOS App Crashes Upon Sign In Attempt :)

I have not tried logging in on to my account on someone else's iPhone yet, but here is a less than satisfactory update:

The issue persists as described after iOS 11 developer beta update, and continues to crash in the same manner after a factory reset and restore. The app continues to work fine, however, on an iPad updated to iOS 11.

Upon inspecting the size of the "Documents & Data" portion of the app it appears to grow with each login attempt and crash.

    App Size: 166.5 MB

Documents & Data: 12 kb (immediately after deleting the app and reinstalling, but before launching)

After opening it, trying to sign in, and it crashes, it goes up to 889 kb.

A second attempt and crash shows that it has grown to 2.3 MB.

A third attempt and crash shows that it has grown to 7.1 MB.

Oddly, the information in Settings - General - iPhone Storage shows "Last Used: April 28, 2017" for the app even after launching it and playing a game without signing in.

I realize my test cases aren't conventional as I have gone through several beta iOS releases, but this issue began on the public release of iOS 10.3 and has persisted since then. I have the Analytics option to Share With App Developers turned on, so hopefully
the crash data is being sent to the appropriate parties and can help resolve this in a future release.

As frustrating as it is, I continue to play the 5 challenges on the iPad every day and hope I am able to do so using the iPhone again at some point in the future.
