Microsoft side backups, and data storage relative to Cortana

What an interesting question! I hope I can answer it to your satisfaction, but the fact is that we just won't have the deepest of answers here on the front line.

You are correct in that there is no call out for how we back up and store data that you've provided to us. While I can't answer to that part of it, I can say that we take privacy very seriously and ensure that everyone has access to their information and
control over what we do with it. (You've likely already discovered that.) As for what is kept when accounts are deleted, that's a weird answer that I can really only provide

this support article for. It explains that everything is deleted, but to be sure to change/remove everything first. It does keep your gamertag and email locked so it cannot be used again in the future, though. This is the most information we have on the
front lines to answer any customer questions.

Hopefully that helps out! I know it wasn't the greatest of answers, but please let me know if you still have other concerns that you would like addressed. I will do my best.

Well you can pay an backup company to retrieve data from the storage

It is always important to make a "backup copy" of your profile either through another storage device or through a cloud save.

How I managed to backup my profile data is after when I am about to log off and turn off my console, go to options, then "storage location", then choose another storage device or the cloud if a storage device isn't available, then basically select that "storage
device" and it will back out to the start screen.

Just have to play a "private versus game" which it can be any one, just wait until the match starts up and quit out and it should show the "reading/writing data to leaderboards" which means the "new data" is written onto the "storage device" to protect against
resets.

I have been lucky I haven't been reset, but it is always important to not try and use the same "storage device" or the backup won't work.

Just want to get the word out on how to backup "profile data" if anyone isn't aware.

Sorry but there is no way to get your level back to 45. I recommend that you make a backup of your Player Data either on a USB or on Cloud storage. This way the next time you get reset you can just delete the corrupted data and add the data backup in so
you'll have your rank and all that was saved onto the backup. Here's a great thread explaining more about making a Player data backup.
