I recently had my gamertag changed by the enforcement team, which is fine. However the gamertag that I chose was generated by Microsoft, when I chatted with the virtual assistant I was told "...If your gamertag was generated for you, you can change it once
for free". I'm being asked to pay the fee again a second time which is unreasonable. I've filed a case review and I'll post the transcript below however it seems to be an automated response which doesn't address my issue instead assumes I want my old gamertag
(which was generated for me) back. That isn't the case, I just don't want to pay for Microsoft breaking it's own rules. It seems impossible to get into contact with the enforcement team, I understand this is probably by design so they won't have to deal with
hostile people all the time. However, this leaves all of us who are rational left to kick rocks. I just want Microsoft to abide by it's own rules as should we.

Although I do not agree that my gamertag contained inappropriate content, I won't argue for it. I will say though, the gamertag I initially wanted was not available and the one I picked was one that microsoft generated for me. As per the automated response
bot I chatted with, "[If your gamertag was generated for you, you can change it once for free.]". Mine was, so I should be able to change it for free. However I am unable to. Please get back to me.

    Thank You.

    Hello,

Xbox Live is designed to be fun and safe for everyone; when people choose inappropriate content for their identity it disrupts the Xbox Live experience for other gamers. Even if the content wasn't intended to offend others, we must take into account how other
players are likely to perceive it. We remove inappropriate content to preserve the quality of our service, and to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.

As a result of this enforcement, a new system-generated Gamertag was automatically assigned to the account. If desired, a new Gamertag may be selected through the standard Gamertag change process. However, the Gamertag that received enforcement will remain
    unavailable.

What the automated rep was talking about , is that when you first sign up for a microsoft account and you choose a prepicked tag then later you can request a change one time for free. That is not the same as the enforcement changing it . So in the end
you would have to pay to change it

    Hi there SaltyPup,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about an enforcement action on the gamertag.

When a forced Gamertag change is imposed, the system automatically assigns a new Gamertag to the affected account, much in the same way a system-generated Gamertag is provided when you first sign up for Xbox Live.

If a player is unhappy with the assigned Gamertag and wishes to change it, he or she may purchase a new Gamertag through the standard Gamertag change process. However, the Gamertag that received the forced change will remain unobtainable.

A forced Gamertag change may be issued if a Gamertag visually resembles, sound likes, represents, hints at, abbreviates, or otherwise insinuates any of the following:

    • Profane words or phrases
    • Topics or content of a sexual nature
    • Hate speech
    • Controversial religious topics
    • Notorious people or organizations
    • Sensitive current or historical events

Unfortunately, here in forums we do not have the appropriate tools to help assist with enforcement actions. For more information, I recommend to visit the
    Enforcement Website.

Since there is no further resolution and in an effort to minimize repetitive answers we will be locking this thread, but if you have any further questions or concerns feel free to come back to the Xbox forum (Do not repost the same question or
thread as that would violate the Xbox Forum Guidelines).

    Happy gaming.

The free change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created the account. The generated tag given by the enforcement team does not count towards that which is why it's asking you to pay. The free change given after a forced
gamertag change was removed years ago do to abuse.

    Answer

being paid or not does not affect the fact that you have to live life and play fair and follow their rules

if you do not like their rules you do not have to use their service

paying for something should instill that thought that you should live life and play fair and follow the rules just like in life

how does the saying goes winners win and cheaters never prosper

psn is free yet they still have their own rules

if i enter your house on my own free will it does not mean that i can eat your food and watch your tv without following the rules of the house

payment for services does not mean you don't have to follow the rules of their service

if you follow the rules you will always prosper

    sportsmanship?

There is no such thing as unwritten rules to playing madden or any other game. You can however impose your own set of rules upon yourself but you shouldn't expect another player to follow those rules nor should you get upset when they don't.
