Microsoft should acquire Dead Rising license and Blue Castle

So, I originally though Capcom was BS'ing when they said they couldn't afford to produce Street Fighter V on their own and allowed Sony to finance it for console exclusivity, I thought they were just playing favorites with Sony, but no, turns out they really
are going broke. They can't afford to make a decent new Resident Evil game, RER2 was garbage. That's why they're doing HD remakes of Resident Evil like REHD that came out a while back, and coming soon is Resident Evil 0 (Zero), Resident Evil 2, and just rumored
today by alleged leak from Korean ratings board, Resident Evil 6 for Xbox One and PS4 coming. Anyhow, Capcom is hurting. Dead Rising 3 for instance released on Xbox One at its launch two years ago, great game, but not a word from Capcom Vancouver, except their
Twitter which seems to indicate they reminisce a lot like "we had a good run" like they all think they're getting fired. Two years they should be releasing something by now, it makes no sense they're not teasing something new except they don't have anything
because Capcom can't afford to finance another game, and MS hasn't commissioned another Dead Rising game from them.

Let's face it, Microsoft has a great history with the first Dead Rising debuting on the Xbox 360, from the first game, to being the lead on the two following sequels, to again reclaiming console exclusivity with Dead Rising 3. The company that made three
out of the four games, Capcom Vancouver, formerly Blue Castle, I'd hate to see them go under, start firing the great people that made these awesome games what they were. So, I think Microsoft should step in, here's what I think they can and should do...

Microsoft should make Capcom an offer to outright buy both the Dead Rising license itself and the inherent privileges that go with that like to reproduce both future and older DR games, but also the Capcom Vancouver studios themselves (maybe they can regain
their Blue Castle name). It would be a great IP for Microsoft to have in its ownership with a great studio that has experience with it. It's also in a choice location in Vancouver BC, just a drive over the US-Canadian border from Microsoft's headquarters there
in the Pacific Northwest, and would be situated in a city that Microsoft currently has some studios in.

At the very least, if Microsoft won't consider this, then at least consider commissioning Capcom to produce another Dead Rising game. The last one might not have been a critical or commercial success or at the very least not won any popularity contest having
to contend with the PS4. But I know it in my bones it was an exceptionally well made classic that Microsoft should be proud of bringing Dead Rising 3 to the Xbox One and to the gaming market period. Maybe the best launch game on any system in many years. Screw
other people if they can't appreciate that yet. Bring us more, don't show you're just as reactionary as those that wouldn't give this series a shot, and eventually people will realize the exceptional genius that goes into making these games and come to celebrate
them with the rest of us who currently do.

If you don't want to budget a huge game, how about an HD remaster of the Xbox 360 era Dead Rising games, with updated presentation, features, fixes to each games most flaring issues in functionality. Still, with Capcom hurting and continuing to contract
and on a course for abandoning international market (or going defunct), I think you guys at MS could acquire a studio like this on the cheap, and the license, but do so while the people that made these games great are still employed by the studio (otherwise
it might be worthless to come in too late). I also don't see why you couldn't get license cheap either. Capcom is hurting and I'm sure they're wiling to take whatever you are offering. Now is the time to strike a good deal.

Capcom Bought Blue Castle games and now are Capcom Vancouver and they released Dead Rising 2 Off The Record under Capcom Vancouver.

As of March 2012, Starbreeze, Splash Damage, Crytek, Epic, Ready At Dawn, Bethesda, Lionhead, Rockstar, Infinity Ward, Remedy, Respawn,
Blue Castle and Visceral are all confirmed to be working on next-generation platforms, and are busily recruiting new staff just for the job.

I agree MS should buy the Dead Rising IP, I would love it if they bought Capcom VC. Dead Rising 3 is a great game, I still find it to be one of the most technically impressive games out right now .... the shear amount of zombies and general mayhem happening
on screen at any moment ....... it's gorgeous.

Totally agree there. I see lots of people rip on the graphics because they used lower polygon count NPCs and lower resolution and a lower framerate, back when they were nitpicking on games for whether they achieved 1080p/60fps, that was a ludicrous standard
to judge this game on. This was a graphical achievement like you said, the sheer number of zombies on the screen at any given time, rendering them on the spot in a huge open world city, that was a massive achievement and I feel a trade-off worth having.

 

Yeah always loved the dead rising games and own them all. Even the smaller games like case zero and case west.

Would love to see another dead rising on xbox one as well as all previous become BC.

If they were to buy the IP then I would hope they buy the original studio too or at least take on the staff.

 

I agree it would be a good pick up. I did think 3 was a little boring but they can improve on it in so many ways to make it a great game.
