Rumor: Upcoming Xbox One patch could improve graphics

Patch Expected to Improve Xbox One's GPU.

    More: IGN

Even though I'm glad that Microsoft is at least doing something to rectify the performance issue but I doubt a patch can really improve on things. The most important thing is the the Xbox One is limited by hardware so I think whatever improvement will be minimal. Another thing is that, 10 percent reserved for Kinect??? What a waste of potential. Anyway, as little as it may seem, it's still a performance boost nevertheless.

Unless I've read this wrong ...

But they could allow developers to use an extra 10% of the GPU that's usually assigned to the Kinect but the way I understand it, if devs decide to use the extra then surely they won't be able to add any Kinect features to a game?

Now obviously not a problem if they had no intentions of adding any Kinect features but would this result in more and more developers deciding to use the extra power but leaving Kinect out?

Again I might have read this wrong.

  6. Do you reckon they are getting a bit worried about developers struggling to get on par performance with their PS4 counterpart? All the news seems to be at the moment is 30 fps v 60fps fanboy stuff.

    @ MGF ..

In that case then that makes me a little concerned. I could be wrong but if developers get the choice of either having 10% extra power, or 10% less but being able to use Kinect I think I know what most will opt for? is this the start of more moving away from
    using Kinect?

@ Webbo/Genchy ... They probably are getting nervous/twitchy. I never have and never will be bothered by the whole "Power" argument but it obviously means a lot to a lot of people. Like you guys said, wherever you look there's talk ... "Why is this game struggling
    to hit 60fps?" ... ...

This will no doubt add more fuel to the fire that at some point in 2014 Microsoft will announce a standalone console.

What concerns me also, now I don't know if true or not as I just don't understand it all but I've seen a few say, even with Microsoft giving it a 10% boost, on paper it still doesn't get the Xbox One much closer to the competition so would it stop all the talk
    anyway?

I just hope Microsoft have confidence in what they have giving us and just go with it, give it a chance but if and it could be a big if, they start doing things like this, doesn't sound like they have much confidence?

  10. We've all read a lot of speculation and reasoning behind the whole thing about X1 not hitting the same framerates/resolutions as it's market rival.

Some say it's the architecture to blame, some says it's down to the DX11 drivers and others just out and out say it's not as powerful.

All these "experts" and people "in the know" can't seem to make their minds up, but I'm sure MS know what's what.

Now there's this thing about freeing up more power being news and a further sign of the consoles weakness.... I'm pretty sure SONY have already done the same thing with the PS4, as in given devs access to resources previously dedicated to the OS or something.
I'm positive I read it somewhere a while back.

Will this affect how much devs bother to integrate Kinect in games? No more than currently I don't think. Sure, almost every game so far on X1 has had some kind of Kinect feature, but in some cases it's literally just been the odd voice command (BF4, Lego
    Marvel and NFS).

Until we see more multi-platform games later on in the console lifecycle that have had more time in development I honestly don't think we see the true power/faults of either new-gen systems.

At the end of the day though, so long as the games are fun and poor performance doesn't cripple them then who cares.

(that was a bit of a ramble, sorry)

I'm totally with you there, I don't give a rats behind as long as the games are fun and games still can be fun even if their not running at 1080p/60fps.

Trouble is though, you know what a lot of people are like, especially on the internet, if every game is not running at 1080/60fps then it's a complete disaster and like mentioned above there's so much talk about it at the moment maybe Microsoft are getting
    a little nervous?

As you said, it's early days yet but I think when games like Destiny, Watch Dogs, The Division , The Crew arrive and we still hear these stories then more people will be asking questions.

  12. Yes, a lot of focus is going to be on Destiny and how each version performs. Of course, anything less than PS4 frame rates then it's going to be armageddon amongst the fan boy masses. Will have my popcorn ready waiting on the IGN comments section.

Whats not really helping is gaming journalism at the moment, which seem's intent on reeling in the fanboys and making as many headlines as possible on the subject - I've lost all faith in gaming journalism right now, its an absolute bloody joke!

The IGN comments section is not for the faint hearted lol

I'm just waiting for the official word on what Titanfall is running at, anything less than 1080p/60fps and I'm leaving my laptop in it's case for the next 6 months ;-)

    No.

The console is selling well and considering it outsold Sony's offering in the USA in December the ONE has probably exceeded expectations.
