Microsoft Really Needs to Push the UHD BD ROM in the S

Yes, well all know it's smaller and that the power supply is integrated. Yes we know about the new bluetooth controller that you can also buy separately. Yes, we all know about the HDR feature that like 4 games will use this year and the 4k streaming that
every 4k TV already has.

What a lot of people don't know is that is plays Ultra High Definition Blu-Ray discs. The fact has been glossed over since it was announced and people are still confused about this feature. The fact that it matches the price of the stand alone Samsung
player for the 2TB model this August means that its a force to be reckoned with for videophiles, and that it will be a no brainer for any movie fan with a 4k TV when the cheaper models come out later.

Why isn't Microsoft screaming this from the hilltops? This should be one of the first highlighted features of the console. It's the reason why I will be upgrading my console for the 4th time, even though I really have no plans on buying any other new games
for the console (I will be buying first party titles digitally to play on my PC, and I will probably buy console only multiplats for the PS4).

Another thing Microsoft needs to address are the audio features of this thing... are they finally going to add audio bitsreaming? This feature is pretty important for audiophiles since it is needed to take advantage of next gen audio formats such as Dolby
Atmos and DTS-X. We know both the OG One and the S are capable of this feature. There's no reason why the S shouldn't support it out of the gate and the OG One should also get it via firmware update since several standard Blu-Rays support this audio formats.

If addressed properly and highlighted/advertised then Microsoft will be able to expand their userbase to people that normally wouldn't even play games. They should have a One S connected to a high end HDR 4k display at every major retailer this year so
people will actually see what difference it makes, they would sell a box with almost every 4k TV that is being sold this holiday, which would do wonders for their currently lagging install base.

Is anyone else here buying the S just for the UHD BD player?

XBOX One S UHD/BD feeds to a 1080P screen

I Just bought an XBOX One S Minecraft edition and it will not be here until the end of next week. I also have 6 UHD/BD disks. Can I play a UHD/BD disk on this unit and feed a 1080P input and get a 1080P picture on my TV/ Will it dumb it down?

Reason I ask is I need to check the disks and player as best I can with a UHD BD.

Xbox One discs are Dual Layer BD-ROM discs 50 GB, which is pretty much standard now. In addition, the One S and the One X can also read UHD Blu-ray feature film discs. Neither the One S or One X can read BDXL discs, I don't know enough about the hardware
to say for sure if this is due to a hardware or software issue. Note that despite the similar storage capabilities, UHD Movie Blu-ray discs are factory pressed, while BDXL is a writable format largely for burning discs with a PC.

Despite the One S and the One X's ability to read UHD discs, they will not be used for Game media.

Fact is this is a huge deal with some people. It definitely needs marketed good. I am shocked by the number of non-gamers I know that are already looking at this for the player. This thing might just shock MS in terms of sales.

 

How many titles are there in true UHD Blu-Ray format? Also, I am still waiting for true, uncompressed 1080p content from my cable providers and Netflix...until they can deliver that, well whatever. I know these providers are touting 4k streaming/video. But
everyone knows it is compressed and lossy. These UHD Blu-Rays might deliver uncompressed, but too pricey for now....plus, the industry is not getting more money from me so that I can buy the 6th format of Die Hard....they already got my money from the theater,
VHS, Laser Disc, DVD, itunes download, and Blu-Ray. For all that they should send me a free UHD gift set with the hardware to play it

 

Lol. One can NEVER have too many copies of Die Hard.

It's been in the top ten of sales on Amazon since it was announced. It's going to sell pretty good, especially when they get the cheaper 500 gb to market in dec.

 

Yeah, I know it has been there on Amazon. And I truly am amazed by the number of people I know talking about it.

 

I already have the Samsung UHD bluray player, but would of held off if I had known the s was coming out with support. More and more titles come out each week for UHD movies. Once there is a demand for them, the number will only increase.
