Microsoft points purchased as a gift

Hi, a friend of mine has been on Holiday to America ( Florida, lucky sod ! ) and brought me back some Microsoft points as a gift. I'm a little worried about using the points, is it OK for me to change my XBOX region to United states, redeem the points and
purchase dlc or a game and then switch back to my UK locale ? Is this ok ? I don't see why not but I want to check, the last thing I want is to get in trouble.

Xbox Live Gift Cards Canada

Microsoft Points cards work the exact same way as Xbox Live Gift Cards. A 1400 Points card bought for $20 will put $20 in your Microsoft Account for example.

Region migrations are not meant to be used in that way and can cause you a lot of trouble. First of all, once you change your region you cannot change back for 3 months. So because your account region and your physical location will not match, you will have
issues downloading some content during that time. The migration can also affect some of the content you have already downloaded and you may not be able to use it.

It would be best to try selling the card and purchase a card for the correct region.

There is no way to gift content over Live. What you would need to do is purchase a Microsoft points card or Microsoft gift card and he can use that to add currency to his account to purchase the content.
