Microsoft online account/family view out of sync

I signed up my nephew with a microsoft account online and myself as the guardian/organizer. From there there were many complications just adding him as a family member so I just removed him from the family on my online family safety page. He is also no longer listed as family on my online Microsoft account page.

On his online Microsoft account page, however, it still lists me as his family even though I removed him. On his family safety page online there is no reference to anyone as his family, so he can’t remove me even if he wanted to. If I send another family request to him, he is unable to accept since it thinks he is still in a family and he can only be in one family at a time.

How can I remove myself from his online Microsoft account page and then try and re-establish him as a family member? I looked at various community articles but they don’t really help fix/address the specific account issue.

This creates complications with online Microsoft purchases and different guardian permission requests.

Hi Kathy,

This solution did not solve the problem. In my nephews’ family safety page with the thick green bar atop the page at https://family.microsoft.com/, there is no drop down menu along the top or anywhere that gives him the option to leave the family. In addition, no other family/family members are listed for him to even select to leave in the main window either.

It is strange to think that the Microsoft Family shows that he is not part of any family however was part of yours in account.microsoft.com. There is a chance that this could be a glitched or we missed a condition here so we would recommend you to contact Support for this. That way they can use their advance tool to check your nephew's account.

Please see screenshots of the current situation, as it is still happening.

The first screenshot is my nephews’ Microsoft family page that makes no reference to any family members. The second is his Microsoft account page that still references me as his family member. He is neither referenced on my family page nor Microsoft account page (not shown).

That only means he is no longer part of any family. However, you have mentioned above that your name is still under his Microsoft family. We would like to clarify if this is still happening and if yes, may we ask for a screenshot? Please conceal your name and personal information.

Your nephew will need to be invited to a Microsoft family an organizer. The Organizer will now be able to limit time screen and allow or buy purchase to be processed.

Otherwise, we recommend you to contact Xbox Support for them to check both of your account.
