Microsoft NEEDS to have Preloading in time for Destiny on 9/9

I agree with @brandiesel for the simple reason pre-ordering anything is one of the stupidest trends in gaming. They want people to put there money up front to help them put out the game.

I will never pre-order a video game digital or physical. But I will say if they are going to have pre-order there should at least be pre load or it makes absolutly no sense.

Walk into the store and just pick it up when you feel like simple. Maybe im just old.

You know how many gamers are. We want it ASAP. The long lines outside any Game Stop (or whatever gaming store(s) may be local) at the midnight launch events are proof that waiting months for a game, but not wanting to wait a few more hours is a truth.

It's the whole midnight launch thing that makes it such a big PITA for many I'd say (or at least I can speak for myself on it). That's why digital pre ordering and pre loading is a big deal to some.

Waiting in a line at a Game store for a pre ordered midnight launch, then having to get back home and then having to install it... PITA.

Digital pre ordering is nice, but... waiting for a horribly long DL on bogged down servers (the DL time would likely take longer than the entire midnight launch process of a physical copy)... PITA.

Having the ability to pre order a digital copy and have it pre loaded so that it can be played as soon as the 'midnight time stamp' hits is a great idea IMO. It solves all the PITAs for those who don't want to wait any longer than they have to on a game
they've been anticipating.

It's only useless to those who don't have a use for it. At my age, I'm pretty much done with the hassles of midnight launch events for physical copies. But just because I don't feel it's worth the hassle of going to a midnight launch doesn't mean I don't
want to play the game as soon as I can get my hands on it. It simply means I'm no longer willing to deal with all the PITAs that accompany it. If I can have my most anticipated games pre ordered and pre downloaded so that I can play them at midnight on the
release date, I'm going to be making a lot more digital purchases because it's a win/win for me.

 

I could care less for this feature....the servers are still going to bog down as soon as they allow the pre-loading to commence. But, these companies need to serve the "instant gratification" gamers that can't wait a few hours, or even a day. So be it.

 

I may end up having to wait without preloading (or even with it), but I still believe that pressing a simple button to start the download/preload and then waiting for it to finish is still infinitely easier than driving out to the store and dealing with
the hassle of pre-order lines at midnight releases (although the latter may be a more sociable experience). With digital releases, I can just start it, go to sleep, get the proper rest I need to live my life normally, and play it later (and since I sleep through
most of the download, it can "feel" instantaneous).

 

The only reason I really preorder is because I order on Amazon and I want them on release date. Pre-loading will be a cool feature but it's not imperative. I'm a patient person/I have to work that day anyways.

If they allow enough grace period time in order for the game to DL and be ready well before the 'access time stamp' passes, bogged down servers won't mean a thing.

Although I'm still a bit confused on the 'PST access time' aspect that someone posted about prior to my last. So does that mean if I pre ordered a game and it pre loads... I still
wouldn't have access to it until midnight PST? Just because I live on the east coast I'd have to wait several hours longer until 3am? Or does that mean I wouldn't even be able to access the servers and begin the DL until that time? (In the case of the latter,
it would be stupid IMO to even call it 'pre-loading'... it isn't pre-loaded, it's nothing more than a digital midnight release).

For me, the whole advantage of pre loading is the idea that your console could begin the DL in plenty of time and it would be ready to start playing right at midnight... and no,
not midnight someone else's time... midnight at the time that's appropriate for the time zone. Well, I started out a little excited for it. Not that I've turned a 180 on the idea, I still like it, but it doesn't sound like it will tick the boxes I was hoping
for.

 

You would be able to preload (of course if they offer it) but I think Bungie decided they aren't turning on the servers until midnight PST (3am EST) so everyone can play at the same time. So yeah you'll have the game downloaded but it won't go online until
said time

 

@Blue it would be preloaded on the console and downloaded in advance. That of course is assuming that it is offered. If we use Madden 15 as the standard, you could preload the game and have it ready to go for today but you could not play until 3 am. That
in my opinion is the worst possible thing. It makes no sense to slight east coast gamers and would be even worse if UK gamers got to start playing at midnight UK time.

 

^Agreed... I think it's stupid, personally. There's no such thing as 'everyone gets to play the game at the same time' when more than one time zone is involved. Simple as that.

 

Because God forbid someone gets to start playing 1-6 hours before I get to. What about all those who start playing early because they got their discs five days ahead of time?

 

No 24, I'm not trolling. In my opinion it's a silly feature and request. I don't mind waiting til the next day to get it. I don't mind waiting an extra hour to download it either. I stopped going to midnight releases in my early to mid 30's.

If people need it pre-loaded because they're too impatient or for any other reason than that's great, but me, personally, I think it's stupid. Besides, I prefer discs anyway.

 

Sony offered preloading on Madden 15 as well and allowed you to start playing at 12:01 AM EST instead of 12:00 AM PST like Xbox. That's what Sony and Microsoft should be doing for all digital releases. There's no reason to make people wait till like 2 or
3 AM in the morning when you could have it available at a reasonable 9 pm to 12 am where people have a couple hours to get on and play even if they have work or school the next day.

I had a converaation with a friend a few weeks ago who has no interest in preloading games as he prefers discs as well, but even he could see the benefit of it to people who like buying digital games. I have patience as well and could wait until 10 when
gamestop opens but giving people an option to bypass retailers is a solid idea.

 

It would be great I would have digital over disc anyday like I have on my PC preload then ready to go when comes out.

Just because someone thinks a feature you like is useless is no need to get upset.

I stand by my point that this is useless. It will save people an hour or so of waiting "to play a videogame". If it was saving me an hour so I can get out of work early, than it's not useless. If it saves me an hour while driving than it's not useless. It
it saves me an hour to be seen by a doctor in a waiting room it's not useless. If all it does is saves you an hour or 2 to play a game....it's pointless.
