Microsoft is asking for my credit card details

    Hey everyone.

I was today speaking with the Microsoft Support, because I want to get my Xbox One into repair since there is some weird electrical noise coming out from it while being deactivated. Can be really annoying.

I really would like to get a secondary Xbox One from Microsoft, while my own is being away to be repaired. The reason is pretty simple: I am a editor for several online magazines and need the console for reviewing reasons. The support told me that i would
need to pay 430€ for the while I am using their xbox but I would get the money back afterwards - security reasons or whatever. So far so good ... but here comes the really weird part: They asked me to give them my full credit card informations. This is something
I dont really want to do (especially not over the phone to someone I don't even know). Who gurantees me, that this support person is not writing these data down and will missuse them? Maybe not tomorrow but who knows? Maybe in 6 months?

So I am really interested to learn more behind this. Is this normal??

    Looking forward to your replies!

    :)

    Microsoft account credit

I have money in my Microsoft account. Why is it asking for credit card details? I just want to spend the money in my account. Is there a way to spend the money in my account without putting in credit card or Paypal details?

Purchasing items from store using my account credit

I recently received an Xbox gift card so I entered code and it says you have 15 pounds in your Microsoft account , can I use this to buy a football top I have found for my avatar in the Microsoft store , when I tried I just kept asking me to change
payment type and asking for credit card details ,

    Hey,

What you're referring to sounds like the "Advanced Exchange". I used this service only a few weeks back now, although I'm based in the UK.

The terms here where that they put a "Hold" onto the the amount an Xbox One costs (for me this was £340). They do not charge the card, but make it possible that you cannot remove all funds from the card. In short - It's so you don't steal their Xbox. This
hold is then removed from your card once they receive your Xbox One. There was no charge for me.

As for trusting the phone support with your details, they're perfectly safe and it's normal to do transactions over the phone, some might argue it's safer than passing it online. Each member of the Microsoft Phone Support will be trained in the relevant
Data Protection laws and know how to process and store bank details correctly.

I pay for many things over the phone and have never had any issues.

Hearing this is somewhat reassuring. I trust that Microsoft is paying high attention on this part, but it still seemed a bit weird. I never was asked for my cc details in beforehand via the phone, and especially in our modern times its only natural to be
a bit wary about such things (*** you, you puny little humans! xD).

Lets hope everything goes well. At first I was planning to wait for a time, when no xbox Games will be released. This proves trickier than you might think ^^
