Microsoft Headset - Microphone Sensitivity Very Low

Picked up the Microsoft stereo headset with mic (includes new controller adapter which required firmware updates; applied).

The microphone sensitivity is very poor. Its not picking up normal chat. Even raised voice will only pick up a word or two. I dont believe there is a option to adjust the mic sensitivity... Thinking i may need to return this.

Any others seeing this with after market mics?

    :)

  2. XB1 Stereo Headset Microphone Issue

    Hi,

I just purchased this yesterday and the microphone sensitivity, initially, seems to be too low with the Xbox One stereo headset.

Both controllers and console are updated with the latests patches.

When streaming through twitch and monitoring my feed, I noticed my chat audio can barely be heard over the game volume, regardless of the microphone setting on the twitch app. This complaint was also voiced by several of my viewers. I then tested the microphone
through the Skype app's sound test service. Again, microphone sensitivity seems too low in playback.

However, oddly enough, when testing the microphone through Upload Studio, the microphone sensitivity was fine. The same was true when testing the microphone with my mobile devices as well.

    Please advise.

    Microphone to sensitive

Hi, as far as I'm aware, there isn't currently a way to alter the microphone sensitivity. However, the headset you use isn't an official Microsoft Xbox headset, so perhaps it's the hardware in that microphone/headset that makes it so sensitive, my Xbox headset
    is just fine.

I've got the exact same problem with the MS Stereo headset like yourself. Don't bother with MS support, they haven't the slightest clue what the problem is and will ask you to send the headset back at your own cost only to get a replacement with the same
problem. Hopefully this means its a firmware issue which is fixable. If not then thats another piece of half baked hardware released by MS.

Feel free to discuss with support yourself but be warned I was on for 55 minutes trying to get this fixed and all they did was ask me to restart the console and try another controller before they gave in.

  5. Same issue for me. Friends can barely hear me in party chat. I found if I take the left side off of my ear and move the mic closer to my mouth, it helps a great deal. But obviously I can't play with an ear cup on the side of my cheek.

Either the mic boom needs to be longer or they need to boost the sensitivity of the mic. I also tried connecting to my iPhone. Low mic level when worn normally but strong signal when moving the mic right in front of my mouth.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinkin firmware or just very low quality product. Still tinkering with couple things to see if i can isolate anything. The original headset works fine (using its adapter) so i have somthing for now.

    Much appreciated

  7. I got the stereo headset and people complain they can barely hear me as well.

I think I'm just going to return the thing to Amazon as defective.

Microsoft Headset - Microphone Sensitivity Very Low

I have to talk pretty loud to make my voice hearable in party chat.

However in Upload Studio the mic is capturing every single whisper w/o any problem.

I'm having the same problem, although I didn't have the problem for the first 3 weeks. It used to be very sensitive. Now, for some reason I have to almost yell, for it to pick up anything.

Here is what fixed the problem for me:

I had exactly the same problem.

I will try to explain the solution as precisly as I can.

well, surely you put the microphone as close to your mouth as you can, did you?

It seems obvious that if mic is closer then mic should be more sensitive, right?

I thought so but I was wrong and I'll tell you why.

This mic is directional mic which means you have to talk exactly to that little hole at the end of mic.

Notice that when you put the mic as close as you can to your mouth then that hole is directed to your cheek not mouth.

Solution: Move the mic AS FAR AS YOU CAN from your mouth (I mean horizontaly), now the hole will be directed exactly to your mouth and since now everything will be ok.

It worked for me, try it and pls let me know.

    cheers.

I have been doing that. It does help, but it still misses a lot of what I say. It's not working at all like it was the first 3 weeks I had it. I wonder what has changed.

I have the MS stereo headphones and last night, after I applied the June update and controller/adapter update my mic is super low gain. No problem with being heard before. Actually, the opposite. Last night in a group of 10, all friends said it sounded like
    my mic was at 20%.

I've had ongoing mic/chat issues, but it's usually been no mic at all until I power cycle a couple of times. It actually worked well for a couple of weeks and now this. I think the adapter and MS brand stereo phones are just fatally flawed.

  14. I stumbled across this thread after searching because I just got the XB1 stereo headset last night and am having the same issue. I have to speak unnaturally loud in order to be heard. It's almost unusable since everyone is constantly complaining that they
can't hear me or I am too quiet.

I tested it myself using the Skype test call feature and my voice is indeed very quiet and almost cuts out at points. The regular headset the XB1 comes with is much louder and does not have this issue.
