Has Microsoft lost its way?

The more and more I think about the question "was this a good 500$ investment?" The more and more I become disappointed with the xbox one, do you remember when the 360 came out? It completely changed gaming but the xbox one already has out dated technology
that computers from 2yrs ago already had I understand PC's will ALWAYS be better than consoles but this technology in the xbox one is already so far behind and to make it even worse the ps4 is 100$ less with better technology in it so I payed 100$ more for
a system with inferior technology. At the announcement of the Xbox one all it was, was them talking about kinect, tv, nfl, SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS

They've strayed away from gaming they don't care about gamers they made a inferior all in one system. if I wanted to watch tv I'd just watch tv I get on my gaming console to play games and chat with my friends not to watch tv.

sorry for the long rant Microsoft and everyone on here but I've stood loyal to Microsoft for almost 6yrs and I feel like they've really gotten away from what made the 360 so popular and amazing

Have you not heard of DirectX 12? I'm not saying it's the magic pill, but it's going to improve the X1. It may take a while, so either hang on, or move on. The X1 was released early, and it's architecture is set up specifically for DX12 as far as I can tell.

I dunno, the forums had just started looking better without all the doomsday threads... This one just makes me realise that I hadn't seen one in a few days... Guess all good things come to an end.

I hope this doesn't turn into a comparison thread. But I know it will...

I have/had no intentions of making a comparison thread because I am in no such manner a sony fan but it was just a simple statement . I love Microsoft but am disappointed with what I got on release day.

 

You may have no intentions... But there are a few here who this thread will be like a red rag to a bull...

Remember... Console generations aren't a sprint... Be prepared for a marathon.

Competition is good for us the consumer... It will push MS to improve...

 

The Xbox One is far from underpowered. Yeah maybe it could have packed a little more but it has loads of potential to keep great games playing and looking great for the years to come thanks to it's ability to build power upon itself. You should never expect
full power out of the box on day one because it just won't happen, if you did, you should have waited. I personally got mine to get in on next-gen early and play the new exclusives and although £400+ may have been a little too much, I do not regret buying
it at all.

 

I'm going to just be brutally honest here: it doesn't matter.

All the advancements in tech or power won't mean anything if Developers don't utilize it in meaningful ways.

So it really doesn't matter which console(or even PC) is stronger because the devil is in the details. Yeah, at some point things might be harder for them as the tech becomes stale but really, if they are good a their job they will create ingenious methods
of creating games.

It really doesn't matter if the X1 is stronger or weaker than other platforms because they might not even be able to utilize that power in creative or meaningful ways. I'm playing Infamous: Second Son right now(omg I mentioned PS4!) and it's a great game.Sucker
punch improved so much from the second game but if you ask me if it shows what the next-generation can do, I would tell you it doesn't feel all that different.

As for Microsoft's direction , I won't touch that.

And finally, give it time. As time passes, more games will come out and iteration will shine wonderfully.

 

You know, the whole 'tv, tv, sports , sports thing has to be the most successful forced meme of all time. Everyone talks about how MS botched their reveal when they said more than once before it even aired that the reveal was for the hardware and its non-gaming
features and E3 would be nothing but games.

People like to pretend that MS put all that other crap first and didn't give a damn about games so that the hate train over their policies would pick up speed. There is no way in hell that as close attention was being paid to all the negative hype, nitpicking
every possible detail that the fact that they told us how they were presenting the console would fly clear over everyone's heads.

Hey OP, I hear what you're saying but it's not all bad. Check on what Pyramid Head15 has said as it is spot on in my opinion. Decent development will bring decent games over time, just like every other console ever made.

When the 360 came out it was a jump from SD graphics to HD so the difference was more noticable.

It took about 6 years for the 360 to get where it is now.

It'll be the same with the Xbox One.

 

How long did we have too wait for a 360 that truely showed off the power of the console, six months? I'd say the title was the first Gears.

Give it time, things will improve, and so what if the PS4 is slightly mire powerful, the PS3 was mire powerful than the 360 and we know how that ended. Once developers get the hang if the Xbox One we'll see parity between consoles.

 

@ Filgor3, If you think the PS4 has better technology than the X1, your delirious. The reason the X1 is a little behind right now is because programmers have to learn the new technology in the X1. The PS4 uses just off the self PC parts.
